Thornton Tomasetti applies engineering and scientific principles to solve the world's challenges. An independent organization of creative thinkers and innovative doers collaborating from offices worldwide, our mission is to bring our clients' ideas to life and, in the process, lay the groundwork for a better, more resilient future. We provide support and opportunities to our employees to achieve their full potential and cultivate a rewarding career. Our
Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments, and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development, and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants, and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate, and academic clients value the validation of Applied Science's software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.
The RoleWe have the opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join our Applied Science Practice with a focus on computational mechanics modeling and simulation by finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This is a full-time opportunity intended for PHD or MS graduates who graduated within the last 24 months in Engineering or related fields. The day-to-day role includes direct communication with senior staff working on solids/fluid dynamics problems, modelling and simulation of complex structures under extreme loads (e.g. high-velocity impact, air/water explosions, thermal loads), characterization of non-linear materials, development of reduced order models, development of engineering and scientific software in Python, C++ or Fortran.
ResponsibilitiesYou are expected to perform advanced analysis and research using FEA/CFD modelling and simulation to address various problems in transportation/civil/defense infrastructure, naval structures, fluid-structure interaction. Tasks may include the following:
- FEA and/or CFD modelling and simulation.
- Material/fluid characterization and model selection for computational analysis
- Developing software or scripting using Python, Matlab, Fortran or C++.
- Researching and interpreting pertinent research, tests, codes, and standards.
- Documenting the design, development, and/or analysis process in engineering presentations, reports, and drawings. Communicating finding to project team and/or clients.
Requirements- PhD or MS Engineering (or related fields) degree within the last 24 months.
