The Computer Operator is responsible for executing procedures involving operations of computer equipment, and peripheral devices, to produce final output for delivery to internal and external clients.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
* Supports the company in keeping commitments to clients by:
* Submitting procedures for execution, monitoring the system, and verifying successful completion.
* Monitoring and controlling the department's printing systems.
* Assisting in maintenance and upkeep of department's media libraries.
* Processes computer operations data by:
* Submitting obey files, macros, programs, and procedures which will produce desired outputs.
* Executing procedures using departmental established schedules.
* Executing special requests after departmental supervisor's review.
* Identifying, and correctly responding to, processing errors and exceptions to processing standards and procedure completion.
* Correctly and thoroughly documenting all exceptions to processing standards.
* Providing immediate notification to department managers' designated on-call individuals about exceptions to processing.
* Operates Desktop computers including:
* Executing procedures which download data to departmental Desktop PCs for subsequent customer file submission.
* Following departmental procedure guidelines and creating DVDs for shipment to external clients.
* Monitors and maintains department's computer equipment by:
* Determining hardware failures and following departmental documented procedures for resolving problems.
* Documenting equipment failures in appropriate logs, indicating vendor, equipment, date/time, problem, vendor arrival/departure times, resolution, etc.
* Performing periodic computer equipment cleaning and maintenance activities according to departmental guidelines.
* Making adjustments to computer equipment, when needed, according to established departmental guidelines and/or vendor technical publications.
* Monitors and controls print processing by:
* Maintaining the necessary level of paper, and other supplies, in printing system(s) to assure operation of equipment at most efficient level.
* Closely monitoring print systems, making adjustments and executing corrective measures as expeditiously as possible to ensure equipment operates at optimal levels.
* Stocking printer paper and other supplies according to departmental guidelines.
* Monitoring print quality, making adjustments, where appropriate, and following departmental guidelines for obtaining vendor support when necessary.
* Assembling reports, when required, before delivery to Data Control for distribution.
* Monitoring the company's follow-up report to assure all reports flagged as missing are printed before purging spooler.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
* Experience with personal computers.
* Ability to follow detailed procedures with precision.
* Ability to control multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Attention to detail with basic documentation skills.
* Proven experience trouble-shooting equipment preferred.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision.
MINIMUM LEVEL OF PREPARATION AND TRAINING NORMALLY REQUIRED:
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
