Overview
GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a Computer Operator. This is a fully remote opportunity based in Harrisburg, PA.
The Computer Operator will provide technical support for production workload scheduling across multiple platforms in two data centers. Responsibilities include coordinating job execution, managing change requests through BMC Remedy, ensuring workflow efficiency, and troubleshooting production issues. The role also involves reviewing and updating job schedules, handling special job requests, and ensuring compliance with policies. The operator will collaborate with development teams to optimize platform performance and support system implementations, occasionally working evenings or weekends as needed.
Responsibilities
* Maintain a working knowledge of current mainframe technologies, focusing on the z/OS operating system, IMS, DB2, VTAM, SDSF, ITOM, and JES2.
* Collaborate with application development teams to understand business needs and provide technical analysis to optimize workflow and support efficient production processing across platforms.
* Manage change and incident requests through the BMC Remedy system, ensuring all production environment changes are properly processed and tracked.
* Coordinate changes to RACF-protected production libraries, program source code, executable modules, JCL, and use IBM's Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWSC) and related procedures.
* Serve as an analyst within the Remedy Service Management System, supporting the review, routing, and closure of IT service requests for production migration, workload applications, and legacy job decommissioning.
* Verify the accuracy of requests, ensuring they meet required standards, approvals, and policies.
* Address special or emergency job requests outside of normal processing schedules, maintaining flexibility to handle complex issues.
* Review and ensure all change requests are processed accurately and in accordance with schedules.
* Generate and communicate the daily production report, including any schedule changes or special job handling instructions to the Operations Data Center.
* Oversee batch job scheduling, update calendars, calculate dates, and define periods/cycles using Tivoli Workload Scheduler and the Dynamic Workload Console.
* Enforce policies and procedures for workload scheduling, including naming conventions, runbooks, and error code handling, while recommending process improvements.
* Support system implementations and releases, including evening or weekend coverage when required.
Minimum Qualifications
* 1 year of experience with scheduling Batch Processing jobs on mainframe and/or servers.
* 1 year of essential knowledge of primary mainframe systems with emphasis on TSO, ISPF, JES2, and ITOM.
* 1 year of experience working with BMC Remedy Service Management System.
