JOB TITLE: Computer Support Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Communications & Community Engagement

SALARY: Negotiable

Job Summary/Scope

Provides end user computer, laptop, tablet, phone and software support to all City employees. Areas of support include common hardware, software and network problems. Coordinates and provides basic computer training to city employees. Assists with technology-related projects. No supervisory responsibilities. No budgetary responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Provides primary support to City employees needing assistance with computer hardware and related devices.

* Provides primary support and training to City employees needing assistance with software applications and upgrades.

* Performs software upgrades for users on computers, tablets, and phones.

* Assists the Systems Administrator with network maintenance and troubleshooting.

* Develops software applications as necessary to support City operations.

* Assists with maintenance, administration, and upkeep of the City's ArcGIS Online site.

* Writes queries and creates reports using Microsoft SQL Server.

* Provides hardware support for the VoIP phone system and cellular devices.

* Assists with administration of the VoIP phone system and cellular devices.

* Provides support for the Photo ID software and camera.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

* Assists with the Emergency Operations Center when activated.

* Answers phones, maintains files.

* Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

* General knowledge of computer networks.

* Knowledge about, and the understanding of, the technical aspects of a variety of computer related equipment.

* Must have the ability to work effectively with users of varying degrees of expertise.

* Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 products.

* Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and SQL queries.

* General knowledge of databases.

* Must have the ability to learn new software as needed.

* Must have the ability to follow complex instructions.

* Valid driver's license required.

* Two or more years of experience in network administration or PC support required.

* Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check.

Material and Equipment Directly Used

Daily use of personal computers, phones, and other computer and printer equipment, and appropriate tools used in the maintenance and repair of computers.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements

Requires good vision, hand and finger dexterity. Requires frequent bending, reaching, and other physical movement. Work is performed in an office setting with a controlled environment. Job can require long hours working at a computer terminal, or in tight quarters during installation of equipment. Must be able to climb ladders. Occasionally lifts 10 to 20 pounds.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or closely related field preferred.

Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment.
