The region is widely known as an outdoor recreational paradise for campers, boaters, cyclists, climbers, cavers and hikers, all this while being conveniently located within two hours of Atlanta, Nashville and Knoxville.Summary:The Computer Technician is a first line of service for the campus community and will be responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining, inventorying, and upgrading hardware/software used by employees and students throughout campus. This individual will also stay current with technical understanding and applications of hardware and software solutions in order to contribute collaboratively with others on the Technology Services team.Essential Functions:
- Install, repair and upgrade hardware/software used by faculty, staff and students in offices, classrooms and labs as required on all systems, as directed.
- Provide support to faculty, staff and students in the use of standard College software on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. This includes responding to questions received via the help desk ticketing system, from walk-ups, by telephone, email and interoffice mail in a timely manner and in accordance with departmental standards.
- Evaluate current and new hardware/software and make periodic recommendations to the Chief Information Officer.
- Maintain an inventory of all client-issued computers and mobile devices. Work with the Chief Information Officer to plan the periodic replenishment of all hardware.
- Work with the designated contacts for hardware and software support, when necessary.
- Provide on-call backup support to Tech department student workers at night and on weekends.
- Complete other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Information Officer.
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree or targeted Associate Degree.
- Two years experience in a related activity.
- Basic familiarity with computer environments, including Windows and Apple OS.
- Working knowledge of TCP IP, including DNS and DHCP.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Very strong communication skills. Individual needs to be able to explain technical concepts and procedures clearly and effectively to a wide range of non-technical personnel.
- High motivation to serve students and faculty.
- Demonstrated project management skills, exceptional work ethic, collaborative team ideology, attentive and engaging interpersonal skills.
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Covenant College graduate
- Microsoft Office Specialist
- Experience with Google Workspace for Education
- Advanced Apple OS knowledge

Physical Work Environment:
- This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and other job-related technology.
- There is a mix of standing and sitting for this role, however a majority of the in-office work day is spent in a stationary position.
- Classified as moderate, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 25-50 lbs.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language.
- Generally, college hours of operation for full-time staff are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties or urgent/emergency situations demand.
- Travel is not required for this position other than for occasional training and/or professional development purposes.
