This role provides oversight for the pre-analytical (positive specimen handling), analytical (confirmation), and post-analytical (review, release, and reporting) processes within the confirmation lab and is instrumental in providing on-time quality results to our clients.What You'll Work OnThe Confirmation Laboratory Manager is responsible for the smooth operation of the confirmation laboratory and the Key responsibilities include:Provide day-to-day supervision and work direction for assigned personnel; ensure adequate coverage within approved headcount to meet TAT requirements.Determine the resources required to maintain optimal production workflows and coordinate requests for additional resources with site managementHire department staff and perform their safety and orientation training; Interact with site HR on new hires, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and terminations.Provide personnel training on new and/or revised procedures, processes, policies, and equipment and provide documentation of this to the Senior Lab manager.Facilitate & ensure timely completion of competency assessments for testing personnel; identify and address training gaps; ensure currency of testing personnel qualifications .Ensure all processes are performed in accordance with established SOPs; update SOPs to accurately reflect lab processes where necessaryEnsure all required regulatory monitoring and documentation is performed in a timely manner; identify gaps and addressInteract and liaise with cross-functional teams (Screening/QC/R &D/Tox Support/IT/Warehouse/Facilities) as needed to ensure smooth operations.Monitor production standards and implement quality assurance programs in the department in consultation with the QA manager.Conduct and oversee department Tier Meetings; monitor productivity standards and implement improvement programs in consultation with the OpEx manager.Identify and document quality incidents within the department, conduct investigations to determine causes and corrective actions, and implement the corrective actions.Complete and provide a monthly department QA report to the QA Manager.Ensure health and safety guidelines are followed and suggest improvements or changes.Determine and maintain adequate supplies inventory (materials, reagents, stationery, etc) for routine operation of the confirmation laboratory.Monitor equipment to document performance and report issues to the Instrumentation Manager; support troubleshooting and resolution efforts.Monitor performance of analytical methods and report issues to the R & D Manager; support troubleshooting and resolution efforts.Monitor LIS performance (Tox2,LES, etc.) and report issues to IT; support troubleshooting and resolution efforts.Implement organization's goals and policies within the department; Support business projects aimed at improvements in quality and efficiency Attend and participate in laboratory management meetingsAssist in evaluating current processes and equipment for quality, performance, and cost effectiveness.Assist in ensuring quality control / assurance policies comply with State of Calif., CLIA '88, and all other pertinent regulatory standards.Assist in maintaining a professional work environment conducive to all team members.Required QualificationsA bachelor's degree in chemical or biological sciences5 – 8 years of progressively responsible experience in a high complexity testing environment with at least three years in a leadership role.Working knowledge of LC/MS/MS and GC/MS as applied in forensic toxicology with at least three years' experience reviewing mass spectrometry data.Preferred QualificationsA Master's degree or higher in Forensic Toxicology or ChemistryExtensive knowledge of LC/MS/MS methodologiesOperational Excellence experienceWHAT WE OFFER At Abbott, you can have a good job that can grow into a great career.
