Open Competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates):
Three years of experience in general construction or maintenance and possession of a valid NYS driver's license appropriate for the types of vehicles to be operated.
Note: If there is a viable promotion examination eligible list (three acceptors) for this position, candidates who qualify under the 55-b/55-c option cannot be considered.
Duties Description This position is a working supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work with a crew and handle the paperwork associated with daily functions.
Typical paperwork will include, but not be limited to:
Daily sign out sheet
Biweekly reports
Monthly facility work report summary
Fuel card inventory and log reports
Work plans for Operations projects
Work plans from programs
MSDS Sheets
Purchase card purchasing log
Annual facility tool and appliance inventory
O.T. eligible rotation list
Annual employee evaluations
Accident reports
Lats approvals
Maintain boundary line rotation
Maintain public fishing rights rotation
Hazard Communication Program
Fire Extinguisher monthly inspections
The incumbent will be expected to schedule daily work for the crew and keep track of progress and prepare written reports. They will be responsible to enforce time and attendance rules for the employees that are supervised. They will be responsible for checking and submitting the monthly vehicle and equipment reports for vehicles that the crew uses. Also, they will schedule vehicle and equipment repairs and service as necessary and be responsible for following proper purchasing rules and submitting invoices in a timely manner. The incumbent will be responsible for enforcing shop safety, proper use of PPE, and oversight of safety and training protocol.
It is a position that is intended to be in the field daily and will assist in storm response, such as floods, that we have experienced across the State. Much of the cleanup will require operating a dump truck to move debris to staging areas as well as removal, and trucking to clear washouts and repair washed out roads.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.
