Location: Huntington,VT, USA
Conservation Specialist - Audubon/VHCB
This position will advance Audubon's Conservation Programs by assisting with habitat assessments, habitat restoration, and bird monitoring at priority habitats across Vermont. Audubon Vermont is a state program of the National Audubon Society with the mission to protect birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow. The 255-acre Green Mountain Audubon Center located in Huntington, VT has been a community hub of outdoor education and conservation for 50 years. Audubon Vermont and our supporters are building a better future for our state through conservation, outreach, community involvement, and by tapping into an active network that includes over 10,000 members, six Vermont chapters, including our newest UVM Campus Chapter, and many respected partners in communities throughout Vermont and along the Atlantic Flyway. Birds need our help. Birds that are flying insect-eaters, such as Tree Swallows, Common Nighthawks, and Eastern Whip-poor-wills, are experiencing steep population declines. Grassland birds that utilize Vermont farmlands, such as Bobolinks and Eastern Meadowlarks, are declining range-wide, and shrubland birds such as Eastern Towhee and Golden-winged Warbler are also declining. There is the opportunity to assist farmers and other landowners to create and maintain habitats that incorporate a mix of native tree, shrub and perennial species to increase the abundance and diversity of bird species while providing other benefits such as pest control and water quality benefits. Position begins January 6, 2025 - August 29, 2025. This position is Three-Quarter Time: Requires 1,215 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for 34 weeks.
