Position Qualifications

Personnel must meet the following qualifications:

Labor Classification Minimum Qualifications Conservation Reserve Program Specialist or equivalent

Minimum Experience:

  • one year of specialized experience and knowledge associated with natural resources, practical experience assisting in providing routine technical support in soil conservation plans.

Minimum Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent

experience in soil conservation work

Works with landowners to develop, implement, maintain and revise conservation plans that are simple and clear-cut with the assistance of a higher graded conservationist.

Explains conservation programs with direct guidance using straightforward narrations of facts and uncomplicated descriptions of conservation practices.

Assists in the evaluation of the implementation of conservation plans and their alternatives.

Works with landowners on the application and maintenance of conservation practices common to the work unit area.

Assists in conducting field investigations, surveys and assembly of data needed in the development of conservation practices for structural solutions to problems with water quality, erosion, drainage, and irrigation.

Inspects proposed sites, determines need and feasibility of conservation practices applicable to the location, advises on on-site selections, performs surveys and layout work.

Provide information to farmers, ranchers and other rural residents on the types of assistance available from Natural Resources Conservation Service and other USDA agencies.

Professional knowledge of agency policy and operating procedures in the National Food Security Act, as amended, Parts 510, 511, 514 and 519.

Knowledge of a variety of agricultural and natural resource management subjects such as agronomy, biology, forestry, hydrology, and applicable elements of engineering sufficient to identify wetland signatures.

The Contractor shall be required to confirm that their selected candidate for each specific position has the required qualifications, skills, and functional proficiencies prior to providing NRCS with the candidate information for the required Government Security Clearance check.
