Here ideas will always be more important than hierarchy because they result in buildings as transformative as the missions they serve.Position SummaryBallinger is seeking a Project Architect or Project Engineer to serve as our Construction Administration Representative and primary contact for day-to-day project progress for a significant multi-phased academic physics and engineering research complex and related projects. This position will work directly with the firm's project leadership in all aspects of the project construction process. This is a high-visibility role on a high-profile project with extensive client and construction manager interaction, collaboration with the architectural, interiors, and engineering discipline leadership and extensive consultant team engagement.As a Project Architect or Engineer with Ballinger, you must possess superb production, analytical, and communication skills, have high appreciation for design excellence and be able to perform well in a rigorous design environment. Responsibilities of the Construction Administration Representative include administering technical drawings and specifications to ensure that their construction conforms to drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and client requirements.The Construction Administration Representative will represent Ballinger and the entire design team while co-located with the client and construction manager. Organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills are of the utmost importance along with strong professional judgment and discretion.Requirements, Responsibilities and Technical SkillsEducation: Bachelor or Master of Architecture or BS, BEng, or BAE degree in engineering; post graduate degree preferred. Registration / License: Registered Architect or Professional Engineering License required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in an architecture or engineering role, with emphasis on CA experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the construction of large academic research labs with complex programs (physics, engineering, biomedical).
  • Experience working with institutional clients and multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to facilitate the execution of the project as designed and documented. Experience coordinating with a large and complex team.
  • Represent Ballinger at all construction meetings for the various project components and phases.
  • Coordinate with other Ballinger and consultant team members who will be making weekly site visits.
  • Collaborate with the design team to produce field site visit reports, review submittals, and respond to Requests for Information
  • This is an on-site position based in New Haven, CT. Periodic travel to Ballinger's office in Philadelphia will occur to facilitate coordination with the project team. During the initiation period, a weekly presence in both locations may be required.
  • This position is not eligible for remote work (WFH), though the Construction Administration Representative will attend remote meetings from either location.
  • Highly versed with preparing and executing full sets of construction documents.
  • Understanding of construction administration process and procedural knowledge of contractual and liability issues.
  • Coordinate construction administration-related activities across the team and all disciplines.
  • High level of responsiveness and collaboration with contractors and clients.
  • Self-starter, able to independently generate solutions and take and provide direction within a larger team.
  • Lead large-scale or multiple projects, develop work plans, and project execution strategies with the project leadership.
  • Demonstration of superior technical skills, dedication, and ownership of work.
  • Superb production, analytical, and communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including work planning, time management, organization, dependability, responsibility, and adaptability.
  • Extensive experience and skill with client relations.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD or other modeling software applications is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Studio and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Location: This position will be based at the project construction site on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, CT with periodic travel to our Philadelphia, PA office.
