Work Schedule: This position currently works either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, 4 days a week, 10 hour days, subject to overtime.*This schedule is subject to change. which used to be Monday through Friday, 5 days a week, 10 hours day, subject to overtime.Incumbents in this position will be held to the District's Gold Standard for Customer Service. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Installs main extension and service gas lines.Responds to gas leaks and performs repairs when needed.Serves as Crew Chief on projects. Provides training and both general and specific direction to all personnel serving on their crew on a daily basis. May also provide classroom training assistance in regards to the District's classroom training initiative.Locates gas lines and responds to emergency locates and gas leaks, as needed.Must be able to safely and responsibly operate the automotive vehicle assigned. Must maintain assigned vehicle through appropriate operator maintenance and by keeping said vehicle clean and neat at all times.Maintains tools and equipment in prescribed manner.Maintains control of inventory items obtained from stock or carried on truck.Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assignedThe preceding is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this job. The principal duties and responsibilities enumerated are essential job functions of this position.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School plus two to five years of experience - orTwo years of college (Associates Degree) plus zero to two years of experience.Preferred Work experience: Prior Utility Worker II internally, Pipeline construction laborer, equipment operator, Crew LeaderESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:Top leadership skills and ability to both give and receive criticism on a daily basis.Ability to provide training to all personnel on crew on a daily basis. The ability exists personnel may change on a daily basis.Knowledge of pertinent local, state and/or federal regulations regarding pipeline installation and maintenance for natural gas transmission and distribution pipeline systems.Good interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, the public and with other craftsmen.A strong mechanical aptitude is essential. Displayed ability in mathematics, specifically knowledge to utilize piping math to determine correct pipe run offsets; installation and maintenance of valves, meters, gauges, and other natural gas peripheral piping devices.Proven basic skills to identify grades and types of pipe, knowledge in use of relevant tools of the trade, and awareness of safe loading/unloading of materials. Understanding of the principles, methods, equipment and materials used in natural gas utility transmission and distribution pipeline maintenance, repair and service work.Knowledge to connect, to disconnect, to repair and/or remove natural gas pipelines. Expertise to install natural gas regulators, meter bars and other applicable peripheral equipment.This position requires knowledge and task evaluation as determined by Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration rule CFR 49, Part 192; Subpart N: Operator Qualifications (OQ).TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:Displays basic computer skills to include: the internet and MS Office to include but not limited to word processing and/or email software. May be required to possess and maintain valid Florida CDL driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the District and its insurers.Displayed knowledge and understanding of safety requirements by wearing personal protective equipment, safety glasses, shoes and gloves as detailed in District and regulatory requirements; in general demonstrates a safety focused attitude. Recognized qualifications to make air tests on gas services and mains.Skills to efficiently operate hand and power tools, to test instruments and applicable equipment and to maintain/return in good condition. Must be able to read and interpret schematic drawings, prints, or blueprints; knowledge and experience with pneumatics and hydraulics. Demonstrated experienced in: proper layout and use of underground shoring; and standard industry equipment/tools, may include but not limited to: pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, hammer drills, and specialty equipment such as pipe threading machines, groovers, and measuring and layout instruments.Required to hold a current M.O.T. certificateOTHER FACTORS:Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.This position may require incumbent to be on the stand-by rotation for after-hours duty including weekends and holidays; may be required to work other than normal hours with little notice.Must be appropriately dressed in a clean and neat District authorized/approved uniform during work hours.Physical Effort: Requires bending, stooping, crawling, climbing and moderate lifting. Must be capable of working from ladders and elevated areas.Working Conditions and Hazards: Works inside and outside. Exposed to rain and seasonal weather extremes. Exposed to fires, toxic fumes, electrical shocks from high voltage, and dog bites.
