- Eager to learn, ask questions, work under and receive direction and supervision from Sr. Construction Inspectors, Resident Project Representatives, and Project Managers
- Assist the Construction Manager with all facets of project execution
- Receive, issue and track RFIs, submittals and other required data
- While not otherwise involved in project-specific work, support other project and proposal efforts, including estimating, procurement and project controls, and coordinating, expediting, and tracking construction submittals
- Read, clearly understand and interpret construction drawings
- Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses for civil projects related to civil infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, class 1 railroad projects, buildings, facilities, water/wastewater facilities, pump stations and pipelines (including electrical, mechanical/HVAC and site civil)
- Monitor, record, and inspect progress on construction projects
- Compose reports with a daily log of activities, personnel, and pictures to send to clients daily.
- Conduct or Coordinate field materials sampling and testing, including concrete slump and air testing, casting concrete test cylinders, and performing in-place soil compaction testing
- Participate in client development and project pursuits, and receive general supervision from the Senior Inspector who reviews work while in progress
- Compose reports with a daily log of activities, personnel, and pictures to send to clients daily.
- Work may require 50% to 100% travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections outside of the Kansas City area.
- Possibility for Long term project assignments.
- Work outdoors and navigate construction sites in all seasons
- Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of construction experience
- Engineer in Training (EIT)
- Knowledge of estimating software programs (Timberline ), scheduling software (Primavera P3 or SureTrak ), Bluebeam Revu and project management software (Prolog or Procore )
- Experience with Steel Structures & Foundations- DPG, Trusses, & TPG
- Freight Rail Experience and/or DOT Experience a plus
- Inspection Certifications
- Knowledge or Rail materials and safety requirements
- Understanding of Project Management principles
- Demonstrated experience in construction and/or construction inspection of Heavy civil infrastructure for DOT, freight or passenger Railroads
- Ability to interpret construction schedules
- Cost analysis experience pertaining to construction
- General accounting knowledge
- Some experience in submittal review and processing
- Plan/Detail reading. PDF editing software such as Revu Bluebeam
- Utilize survey equipment to check and confirm construction
- This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
- Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law
QualificationsRequired Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field
- Knowledge of MS Office, Primavera, Scheduling Software, spreadsheets and databases
- Interest and/or experience in the construction field
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
