We are seeking an experienced Construction Engineer/Inspector for work on various transportation and infrastructure projects. The Construction Engineer will perform a variety of tasks and assignments related to oversight of the construction of roadways, transit, railroads, bridges and transportation related structures in accordance with design specifications and guidelines. This individual will determine procedures and inspect project materials; organize and coordinate vendors and agency communications; and apply techniques to carry out a sequence of related engineering tasks. The position will require traveling to job sites located within the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami Metro locations.
Responsibilities:
- Apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out tasks as part of a broader assignment.
- Inspect various aspects of surface transportation projects, including aviation, ports + marine, rail + transit, roadway bridges, and other transit-related structures with subtasks such as earthwork, utilities, drainage, asphalt, reinforced concrete pavement, sheet pile, pipe pile, lighting, signing, etc.
- Inspect and coordinate material testing, review contractor submittals and requests for information with the contractor(s).
- Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and regulations.
- Assist in the setup and maintenance of master project files.
- Assist in resolution of design/coordination issues.
- Monitor contractors work progress and schedule.
- Attend and help facilitate various meetings; assist with the preparation of meeting minutes.
- Interpret contract specifications and special provisions.
- Perform contract documentation duties, including field measurements of pay items and daily inspection reports.
- Coordinate activities with onsite inspectors and inform Resident Engineer of construction progress, problem areas and the progression of those problem areas.
- Prepare contracts for close-out, including as-builts and punch list review.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture and/or Construction preferred.
- Must be on track to earn professional licensure including Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA) and/or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).
- For applicants with Engineering, Engineering Technology or Construction Management degrees:
- Two (2+) or more years of related experience in surface transportation (roadway or bridge construction), aviation, ports, marine, rail, or bus-transit projects.
- Any other relevant full-time experience (such as South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) experience) will be considered.
- A Masters Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management may be substituted for one (1) year of engineering experience.
- For applicants without Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management Degrees:
- Eight (8) years of CEI experience in surface transportation (roads, highways + bridge construction), aviation, ports + marine, rail + transit projects.
- Minimum of two (2) years involved in relevant surface transportation projects.
- Must have any combination of Construction Training & Qualification Program (CTQPs) certificates including FDOT Advanced MOT, CTQP Final Estimates Level II, CTQP Quality Control Manager.
- CTQP qualifications/certifications for this position may be obtained within six (6) months from the date of hire provided that this position works under the supervision and direction of a Senior Project Engineer, all other requirements for the position are met, and a training plan is submitted detailing when the qualifications/certifications will be obtained.
- Familiarity with the FDOT Construction Project Administration Manual processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of FDOT Local Programs Manual requirements is a plus.
- Experience shall include interfacing with contractors, experience in assisting in dispute resolution.
- Must have good communication skills and maintain neat and accurate records.
