Environmental Services Company in Long Island City Queens is seeking a Direct Hire Estimator. Job SummaryThe position of Estimator is key to the financial and technical success of the company. Among other responsibilities, he or she is responsible for nurturing customer relationships, finding profitable project opportunities, thoroughly and accurately estimating the costs of the projects and bidding and securing assignments.Duties and Responsibilities1 Developing Project Opportunities1.1. Develops and nurtures relationships with contractors, owners, governmental agencies and other potential customers or influencers.1.2. Responds to inquiries from potential clients for information about the capabilities of the company.1.3. Tracks and follows up on inquiries.1.4. Reviews bid opportunities to evaluate the fit of prospective projects to the capabilities and business objectives of the company; makes recommendations concerning whether or not to bid projects to the VP of Estimating and Business Development.2. Estimating and Bidding2. 1 .Reads and understands the specifications, drawings, notes, etc. in the bid request.2.2. Discusses any issues that require clarification with the potential client.2.3. Visits the job site to ensure that unusual site or production requirements are properly considered in the bid.2.4. Uses the correct labor rates as provided by the Controller.2.5. Takes off each opportunity, using the methods and tools defined by the company, or an alternative as approved by management.2.6. Works with the Estimating Administrator to complete a bid package in accordance with company policy and customer requirements.2.7. Reviews the estimate and the bid package with the VP of Estimating and Business Development in accordance with company policy before bid date.2.8. Submits the bid.2.9. Follows up on the bid on a timely basis and provides post-bid information, if required.2.10. Follows up with the potential clients on lost bids to determine the reason and debriefs the VP of Estimating and Business Development.2.1 1. Updates the bid log as bid status changes.3. Post-Award / Preconstruction / Postconstruction Activity3.1 Leads the post-bid value engineering effort, involving the Project Manager if one has been appointed.3.2 Meets with the Project Manager and the General Superintendent in the Handoff Meeting and presents information in accordance with company policy.3.3 Participates in the Job Completion Review meeting.4. General4.1 Maintains a high level of expertise with the company's estimating tools and techniques and the project accounting system.4.2 Complies with corporate policies and procedures.Job RequirementsBasis of EvaluationThe performance of the Estimator will be evaluated on the following criteria:1. Number of bids submitted.2. Number of bids won.3. Actual project profitability vs. estimate.4. Development of new and existing customers.Qualifications1 . High school certificate2. 5 years of contracting estimating experience.3. 2 years of construction field supervision in environmental or fireproofing contracting.4. Computer skills, including at least Word, Excel and one or more estimating systems. If experience in using Procore Software, that is a plus.5. Willingness to roll up his sleeves and do what is necessary to get the job done.6. Honesty, integrity and a strong desire to succeed. Excellent organizational and communication skills.8. Ability to deal tactfully in human issues with colleagues.9. Ability to create and maintain cooperative team building relationships.10. Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in others and shift responsibilities to take advantage of those strengths.11.
