Job Description:
PACO Group is seeking Construction Flaggers to support the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to be placed on multiple construction projects, including federal and non-federal contracts, as well as inspection services for other ongoing projects. The selected individuals will be instrumental in ensuring the safety of workers, vehicles, and pedestrians in active construction zones, providing critical support for the safe execution of construction activities. This position requires a solid understanding of traffic control protocols, effective communication skills, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions on active construction sites. Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction zones to ensure safety and efficient flow.
  • Set up and maintain construction signage, cones, barriers, and other traffic control devices according to safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with construction crews and inspectors to facilitate safe movement of vehicles and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to changing traffic conditions, providing adjustments as needed to protect workers and the public.
  • Work closely with the site supervisor and construction manager to ensure all flagging activities comply with site safety plans and local, federal, and PANYNJ safety guidelines.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe construction environment by reporting any safety concerns or incidents immediately.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and site coordination meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties related to construction site safety as directed by supervisors.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Flagger Certification recognized in New York or New Jersey.
  • Proven experience as a construction flagger or in a similar role, preferably within civil infrastructure or transit projects.
  • Knowledge of federal and state traffic control regulations, specifically within a construction context.
  • Ability to remain alert and respond promptly to directions in a busy construction environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience working on Port Authority or major transit construction projects.
  • Familiarity with federal and non-federal requirements for construction safety.
  • Previous work with on-call civil inspection contracts is a plus.
Work Conditions:
  • This position will require work in outdoor construction environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Must be comfortable working around heavy machinery and in active construction zones.
  • The position may require flexible hours, including nights and weekends, depending on project needs.
