Salary: $65,011.15 - $81,263.94 AnnuallyLocation : Huntersville, NCJob Type: Full timeJob Number: 202400112Department: PUBLIC WORKSOpening Date: 09/25/2024Job DescriptionPosition will serve as Construction Inspector with emphasis on erosion and sediment control and storm water under general supervision of the Erosion Control Manager. The position will serve as a field inspector and is expected to work closely with Engineering staff, Land Development staff and other inspectors in the performance of all duties. Essential Duties of the PositionThe following duties are those considered most essential to the position. This does not preclude the delegation of other duties considered as necessary by management to successfully complete an assignment or project.
  • Inspects construction sites for compliance with local Soil Erosion and Sediment Control ordinances.
  • Perform technical and investigative work involving the enforcement of various codes and regulations in order to protect public health, safety and the environment.
  • Performs detailed inspections of Storm Water Best Management Practices.
  • Performs inspections for compliance with Land Development and Zoning standards.
  • Prepares detailed reports and initiates enforcement actions when necessary.
  • Conducts pre-construction meetings and works closely with contractors and the development community.
  • Responds to citizen complaints regarding erosion and sedimentation control when needed.
  • Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
Minimum Required Education and ExperienceKnowledge of State and Local regulations and ordinances governing land development and land disturbing activities. Skill in interpreting and applying technical standards and procedures, Federal and State rules and regulations, and Town policies and procedures. Skill in reading and evaluating construction documents and technical specifications, collecting and analyzing data, and performing mathematical and statistical calculations. Ability to set up and use databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software (Microsoft Office). Ability to work independently, and confidentially when necessary, applying established procedures to varying situations. Ability to communicate technical ideas effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare and present technical reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, other public officials and representatives, associates and the general public. Ability to work in the field in all weather conditions, often walking extended distances over rough terrain. Some tasks may require entering streams (PPE provided) to conduct necessary duties. Possess or ability to obtain applicable certifications. Associate's Degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field and 3 to 5 years' experience in erosion and sedimentation control and storm water field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree is preferred. Possession of an appropriate driver license valid in the State of North Carolina. Supplemental InformationThis work requires the regular exertion of up to 20 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting, frequently repetitive motions and generally requires speaking or hearing; work requires depth perception and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration, frequently working near moving traffic and mechanical parts and occasionally requires exposure to extreme cold and exposure to extreme heat; work is occasionally in a loud noise location; subject to occasional emergency/afterhours call-back and scheduled afterhours work.
