Join our diverse team and support your community while protecting our environment.MMSD is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Construction Inspector in the Technical Services Division. Reporting to the Construction Field Manager, you will be responsible for on-site oversight and monitoring of capital/O&M construction contracts to ensure compliance with contract documents and required quality levels. Additionally, you will keep and maintain accurate records of construction progress and report activities to others in accordance with MMSD policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site inspections to determine compliance with contract documents, codes, regulations, etc. Alert the Construction Manager and contractor to conditions and/or activities that do not comply with contract documents or standards.
  • Complete inspection reports, photograph logs, and other project required documents and records utilizing construction management software.
  • Maintain construction progress redline drawings detailing deviations from the contract as originally shown.
  • Communicate with Construction Manager regarding work activities and problem areas. Plan activities and discuss project obstacles.
  • Assist the Construction Manager with preparation and processing of contract documentation including submittals, RFIs, punch lists, O&M manuals, spare parts transfer, contract substantial/final completion, etc.
  • Assist the Construction Manager in coordination of contractor work activities with ongoing operation and/or maintenance of District assets.
  • Observe and evaluate potential hazards and unsafe conditions. Communicate/coordinate with the Construction Manager and safety staff in an effort to prevent accidents and unsafe conditions.
  • Communicate accurate project information to internal and external stakeholders, including the general public, using non-technical terminology.
  • Test contractor work by taking concrete cylinders, or other samples, in order to comprehensively monitor quality of work.
  • Maintain technical competency and remain current with technological changes in the industry.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience, including construction inspection, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to apply written and oral communication skills to the completion of job duties.
  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed records, field notes, and to contribute to detailed technical reports and records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relations.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work with blueprints, specifications, and plans.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply various construction codes and standards.
  • Ability to perform all jobs' testing accurately.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of OSHA confined space entry procedures to the safe completion of job duties and ability to use field testing equipment.
  • Ability to access a confined space through a 20-inch diameter opening, walk along uneven terrain, and lift or move up to 25 lbs. regularly and 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Valid driver's license required and a good driving record at time of application, during the selection process, and throughout employment.
Supplemental Information Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, you are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. You are frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. You are occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electric shock, and explosives.
