- Responsible for inspecting site development construction activities at various stages of construction for conformance with ordinances, Missouri Department of Natural Resources Standards, safety regulations, material standards, and workmanship.
- Conducts inspections of water service connections, building service lines, back flow assemblies, and unauthorized cross connections.
- Conducts inspections of sewer service connections, gravity mains, pressure mains, grinder stations, lift stations, and all other sewer required materials
- Conducts inspections of roadways to ensure grading, proper compaction, material type, and asphalt or concrete quality.
- Conduct inspections of storm sewer and erosion control.
- Conduct wage interviews on Federal aid projects.
- May utilize surveying equipment.
- Conduct contract administration on city construction contracts if necessary.
- Assumes additional tasks as assigned by the City Engineer.

- Ability to work outdoors under most conditions.
- Adept at reading and comprehending plans, reports, manuals, and written instructions.
- Working knowledge necessary to enforce the requirements outlined in the ordinances.
- Ability to maintain a harmonious working relationship within a small office with public contact and frequent interruptions.
- Ability to use professional equipment that is common to land surveyors, the engineering field, the architectural field, etc. as it may relate to the responsibilities of this position.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, technical reports, legal documents, maps and other related materials.
- Ability to maintain organized accurate files and records.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, city officials, and the general public, through written and oral communications.
Possession of a valid Missouri driver's license in good standing. Job Requirements Minimum QualificationsIn-depth knowledge of all materials, methods, and techniques involved in building construction; good working knowledge of all pertinent ordinances, codes, and regulations; good face-to-face, telephone, and written communication skills; ability to read and interpret blueprints, working diagrams and specifications accurately and quickly.Physical RequirementsSight, hearing, speech, frequent lateral mobility, lifting items above head, stooping and bending, mentally analyze a situation, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure in area of responsibility; performs bending, squatting, sorting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead as required for such tasks as retrieving files; lifting, carrying, stooping, superior strength with ability to push and pull 100 pounds and lift 50 pounds from the ground to 3 feet in height unassisted, changing of physical location; must be able to hold and grip objects; may be subject to sitting for long periods of time; possesses manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard; may work a varied schedule including some evenings and weekends; may be subject to pre-employment drug testing; must be able to work indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general office environment and in outdoor working environment, subject to a variety of weather conditions; may be exposed to extreme weather conditions, dust, and/or pollen.
