RECRUITMENT TIMELINE: *** Accepting applications through January 26, 2025, at 11:59 PM ****** Qualified candidates will be contacted by January 29, 2025 ****** Phone Screens are expected to take place the week of February 3 – 7, 2025 ****** Interviews are expected to take place the week of February 10 - 14, 2025 ***What You'll Do:
- Inspect and investigate various construction projects, including streets, sidewalks, bridges, and other infrastructure elements. You will ensure that all work meets the city's standards and regulations.
- Monitor work quality and materials used to guarantee compliance with approved plans and specifications.
- Perform field tests and collect samples of materials for laboratory examination.
- Conduct engineering surveys and make measurements in the field.
- Schedule and coordinate inspections, testing, and walk-throughs with contractors and other city staff.
- Review plans and specifications and participate in pre-construction conferences.
- Document the quantities of materials used and work performed.
- Prepare daily status reports and write letters and reports related to inspections.
- Contribute to a culture of safety by reporting any hazards observed.
What We're Looking For:
- Knowledge of public works administration, roadway, and bridge construction, and related standards.
- Understanding applicable federal, state, and local construction laws and regulations.
- Familiarity with standard construction and inspection equipment.
- Ability to read and understand engineering plans and specifications.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with engineering and construction professionals, coworkers, and the public.
Hiring salary is dependent upon experience. Experience: Two years' experience in construction inspection or related work is required.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Must possess a valid Commercial driver's license or obtain one within three months of date of hire and maintain during the course of employment. Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of Public Works administration, roadway and bridge construction specifications, standards and practices, along with thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment common to engineering and construction operations
- Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations related to construction inspection and safety
- Operational characteristics of standard equipment associated with construction and construction inspection
- Construction and engineering terminology
- Methods and techniques for basic report preparation and writing
- Concrete and Asphalt applications. ROW, Stormwater, Water and Wastewater knowledge a plus.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively with engineering and construction professionals, coworkers, and the public
- Express ideas effectively both orally and in writing
- Use independent judgment and discretion in determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented
Skills in:
- In reading and understanding engineering plans and specifications
- Problem solving simple and complex issues.
- Working with various individuals and groups to ensure compliance and requirements are met.
