Duties Under the supervision of the Construction & Maintenance Supervisor this position performs journey-level work in various trades accomplishing routine planned and emergency maintenance in a park area and performs advanced skills level work in remodeling, repairing, and maintaining buildings, facilities, utilities, and equipment. The Construction & Maintenance Project Specialist may serve as the maintenance and project contact for the Central Lakes Area Parks, which includes Lake Chelan, 25 Mile Creek, Alta Lake, and Bridgeport State Parks and associated park managed facilities and properties. This position coordinates and works cooperatively with Area and Park staff, responsible for project identification, planning, development, and completion of projects of a routine and non-routine nature (including emergency and urgent repairs), as well as overseeing maintenance and operation of agency owned equipment, tools, buildings and facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Under the supervision of the Area C&M Project Supervisor, performs construction, maintenance and repair work completing preventative and deferred maintenance projects, requiring journey level skills.
- Performs journey level work in equipment operations, repair, improvement projects, carpentry, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and masonry trades.
- Maintains, constructs, and remodels building. floats, docks, trails, infrastructure, and other facilities required for park operations.
- Meets building and permit codes, be accurate, timely, organized, and provides adequate outcomes in a timely manner.
- Assists with projects at other state park areas as part of the greater State Parks Maintenance team, as needed.
- Responds to and repairs area park maintenance related emergencies and urgencies.
- Maintains health and safety standards.
- Works alone in remote locations.
- Responsible for heavy equipment operation, maintenance, repair, and transport, as needed, including 7-yard or larger dump truck, tractor/backhoe, and other Parks' owned or rental/leased, heavy/construction equipment.
QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years as a Maintenance Mechanic 1.
OR
- Four (4) years of advanced level experience in two (2) or more of the construction/building trades to include: building maintenance, repair, remodeling, construction duties, and mechanical/machinery operation.
**Two (2) years of technical or vocational training or education in a building/construction trade may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience. AND
- High school graduation or GED.
- Valid unrestricted (except corrective lenses) driver's license.
- Class A CDL Driving Endorsement must be obtained within twelve (12) months of employment.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Sick Leave Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave. Vacation (Annual Leave) Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave. Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
