Job Description

This position is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Basic Purpose

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities related to the construction, maintenance, repair or upkeep of buildings, grounds or other state property, requiring no license. This may include assisting in the construction or renovation of buildings, general maintenance and upkeep of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical and other systems, minor repairs to machinery or other equipment, and general maintenance of grounds or lawns.

Typical Functions

* Assist with the daily operations of the OSBI's Headquarters facility by monitoring building systems and implementing corrective action

* Assists with maintenance and repairs to OSBI owned Regional Offices and Laboratories on a quarterly and as needed basis. Overnight travel may result on an as needed basis to perform job tasks at regional locations.

* Performs carpentry work in the construction or renovation of buildings or additions to existing structures; alters and repairs doors, floors, partitions, stairways, windows, screens, and other fixtures; maintains and repairs roofs.

* Oversees janitorial staff and lawn maintenance contracts to ensure proper maintenance and appearance of HQ and LTS facilities.

* Assists with backup support for supply store and mailroom functions areas at the HQ building as needed.

Level Descriptor

* This is the specialist level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibilities for performing specialized skilled work in one of the building trades as well as performing general maintenance and repair work or other related duties or assisting in the completion of other work involving the construction or renovation of buildings or other structures. Positions that are assigned responsibility for the supervision of various projects or activities and other employees or other personnel and the completion of assigned projects as a crew leader or team leader may also be included in this level.

Education and Experience

* Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of four years of experience in one or more of the building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, fixtures, tools and equipment used in various building and maintenance trades; and of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Skill is required to use various tools and equipment, and to construct, maintain or repair various types of structures or equipment. Ability is required to follow written and oral instructions, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Special Requirements

Successful applicants must be willing to submit to a drug screen, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation (commissioned positions only), and a thorough background investigation. Certain events automatically disqualify an applicant, such as, felony conviction; admission of an undetected crime that, if known, would have been a felony charge; failure to pay federal or state income tax; positive confirmed drug urine test; illegal use of a controlled substance within certain time frames.

Additional Factors

* Trial period in accordance with Civil Service Rules 260:130-19-30 is required.

* All applicants must provide access to their performance evaluations and any other prior employment documents as requested by the OSBI.

* The selection process may consist of one or more of the following: oral interviews; performance examinations; written examinations; evaluations of training and/or education. Applicants must complete all phases of the selection process to be considered.

* Offers may be withdrawn at any time due to budget concerns.

* This position is required to work in an on-call/as-needed basis.

* Internal applicants for transfer or promotion must have received an overall rating of MEETS STANDARDS or EXCEEDS STANDARDS on their last performance evaluation.

* Employment of relatives governed by OSBI policy #123.

* Applicant must serve a one-year trial period.
