Summary
The Construction Manager for Substations is tasked with overseeing the development and construction of substations. This role combines in-depth project management skills with robust on-site supervision, ensuring that substation projects are executed efficiently, adhere to technical specifications, meet regulatory standards, and are completed on time and within budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Lead the on-site management of substation construction projects, providing comprehensive oversight from the bidding phase through to project completion.
* Oversee the total construction efforts to ensure adherence to original design, budget, and schedule, including direct interfacing with client representatives, AE representatives, subcontractors, and other relevant stakeholders.
* Supervise and coordinate onsite functions, including scheduling, engineering, material control, and the management of onsite administrative staff in accounting and purchasing.
* Manage the entire project lifecycle for substation construction, which includes project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure.
* Aid in the bidding process for new substation projects, ensuring all proposals meet stringent technical specifications and regulatory standards.
* Maintain and develop strategic relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to secure resources and ensure adherence to project timelines.
* Provide high-level technical assistance, such as interpreting drawings, recommending construction methods, and selecting appropriate equipment for substation projects.
* Ensure compliance with all project procedures, safety program requirements, and work rules. Document any violations, notify project management, and implement corrective actions as required.
* Authorize and approve all project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, field design change requests, and other administrative actions.
* Directly manage multiple subordinate supervisors responsible for various field operations, ensuring productivity and contractual performance of the project.
Supervisory Responsibilities
* Directly supervise up to 10 subordinate project supervisors, each overseeing different facets of substation construction projects.
* Indirectly oversee a broader team of craft employees and contractors across multiple sites, ensuring efficient use of materials and equipment.
Requirements
* Proven capability in managing large-scale substation construction projects, with a comprehensive understanding of the technical, regulatory, and safety aspects.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and teams.
* Willingness and ability to travel frequently between project sites, including potential out-of-state travel.
Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
* Minimum of ten years of construction management and/or craft supervision experience, specifically with a focus on substations or similar facilities.
* Extensive knowledge of construction technology, equipment, and methods; craft agreements, jurisdiction, negotiations, engineering, cost control schedules, and safety.
