Job Description:
Job Summary: The Operations Manager is a senior leader critical to operations within their designated geographic area (North and South Carolina). They will be based in the Raleigh or Charlotte Area.The Operations Manager will lead a team of construction managers, foremen and other team members in NC and SC to manage and execute construction projects from start to finish. They manage assigned projects, communicate internally/externally, control estimated costs, and maintain a safe work environment. They are responsible for day-to-day operations within their area and safety, quality, delivery, and cost (material and labor productivity) on projects. The Operations Manager's performance is measured by project profitability, building and managing relationships with customers, the final product meeting plans and specifications, and ODG's quality in construction benchmark. They are expected to brief the VP of Operations on projects and the team while operating with a high degree of autonomy. Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership - the Operations Manager will serve as the operations leader for the team in their designated area. They will be responsible for communicating internally and externally to grow our market share within this region and increase customer and employee satisfaction. The Operations Manager will provide a rolling, three-week look ahead to the Division Manager and VP of Operations to outline all project-related visits, meetings, and be accountable for the team and project execution. They will partner with HR and others to recruit, train and develop employees.
  • Safety - the Operations Manager will ensure our teams understand and adhere to ODG's safety protocols as well as those of our clients.
  • Quality - the Operations Manager will ensure that our projects meet ODG's standard for client-communication, quality, timeliness, and finish.
  • Delivery - the Operations Manager will ensure that our projects meet the committed timelines of the project, flexing resources to meet the client's needs.
  • Cost - the Operations Manager is responsible for meeting or beating the estimated material and labor costs of the project.
  • Jobsite Visits - the Operations Manager will visit jobsites to engage with the ODG and client field and project management teams.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leads and directs overall project activities including planning, coordinating, and meeting critical project milestones while ensures the crew works safely, following all local, state, and federal laws and regulations and codes pertaining to the scope of work.
  • Works alongside the safety department to ensure a zero-accident work environment.
  • Effectively manages the Construction Manager and Project Manager assigned to a given project.
  • Identifies and ensures the appropriate crew is assigned to the project with the Construction Manager.
  • Finds adequate labor to properly execute assigned projects.
  • Performs quality control duties for the work being performed.
  • Communicates and manages project logistics.
  • Ensures the correct approved material is furnished and installed on a given project.
  • Ensures the crew meets daily productivity goals.
  • Manages the Construction Manager's daily reports for all crews.
  • Assists the Construction Manager or PM with Identifying, investigating, and resolution for any project-related problems that may arise.
  • Review and ensure project tracker and other project-specific documents are organized and updated with project manager.
  • Identifies conflicts related to construction progress and communicates them to the project team and client to ensure timely resolution.
  • Through regular site checks and reporting, manage the project quality control plan, communicate specific systems and materials best suited for the project, and ensure scope work is being completed.
  • Represent the company in meetings with clients, subcontractors, and important project stakeholders. Lead and effectively communicate the company's portion of scope.
  • Identifies and corrects quality issues before they become punch list items.
  • Must be able to travel daily to the jobsite as assigned.
  • Review and oversee the submission of After-Action Review (AAR) documents from Project Management.
  • Assists with collecting aged receivables.
  • Provide clear communication and data concerning why the company is winning or losing on a project through the duration.
  • Assists the Project Manager and Estimating department regarding cost to complete estimates for project invoicing.
  • Responsive to phone calls and other communications concerning assigned projects; and shares relevant information to the project team, client, leadership, and other stakeholders in an effective and timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree with 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in construction; Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or another related field with 5+ years progressively responsible construction experience; or any similar combination of education and experience as listed above.
  • Minimum of five (5) years project management experience in construction.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience managing project budgets.
  • At least five (5) years in a senior-level role in construction supervising a team.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and technical drawings across multiple business entities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Knowledge of construction technology, scheduling, equipment and methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective and professional relationships with customers, vendors, managers, and colleagues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and meet customers' expectations and requirements.
  • Strong leadership, delegation, and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail with a focus on error prevention.

  • Ability to use Bluebeam and/ or On-screen Takeoff.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Ability to travel frequently across North Carolina and region (up to 50%)

  • Bilingual (English, Spanish)
  • Mechanical aptitude, project management/operational leadership, negotiation skills, hiring, and employee development.
Physical Requirements include but are not limited to the following:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, stretch, squat and climb.
  • Able to frequently travel to jobsites and meetings.
  • Able to wear the required personal protective equipment.
  • Able to work with specialized construction equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Able to see, talk and hear in person, via phone and/or through online/video.
  • Able to use hands and fingers in a manner that allows for use of a keyboard and phone.
  • Able to lift & carry items up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to pass Respirator fit test.
