Salary InformationCompensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. **A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations** Nature of Work This position is responsible for issuing or denying the issuance of building permits. In order to determine whether or not permits should be issued, the incumbents perform a variety of tasks to include researching, analyzing, interpreting, and applying residential and commercial construction laws, ordinances, regulations, and mandates. Specialists work with owners, owners' agents, contractors, designers, etc. to explain and coordinate the appropriate documentation and inspections necessary for permitting. The Specialists will also review all of the documentation to determine completeness, determine what additional steps are needed, and make decisions based on laws and policies. Once the process has reached its conclusion, the incumbents calculate and request the payment of fees and enter data and develop reports to document the activities and decisions made. Employees report directly to the Building Plans Coordinator. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in building construction, engineering, architecture or a related field and four (4) years of technician level experience in an architectural, construction, engineering, or related technical field. NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.Special Requirements Certification from the International Code Council (ICC) in Code Enforcement or Permit Technician within the first two (2) years of employment into the classification. Kind of Examination Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Inspections Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience on their online application and supplemental questionnaire.
