Job Description:
Description Choate Rosemary Hall is seeking a Full-Time (full-year) Construction Project Manager to join our Facilities Department. This position reports to the senior project manager, and is scheduled to work in-person, Monday-Friday 1st shift. Application review is anticipated to begin on/after November 11th. The incumbent hired in the position will be responsible for renovations, new construction and capital improvement projects for Choate Rosemary Hall. Job duties entail the following:
  • Oversee & coordinate all aspects of design and construction for minor capital projects.
  • Provide management oversight and on-site inspection for all phases of construction projects to assure compliance with plans and/or specifications.
  • Inspect all work in progress at construction sites.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair projects generated by faculty summer moves and performs final inspections prior to faculty moves.
  • Perform annual general maintenance inspections to include but not limited to, interior and exterior painting, interior and exterior maintenance, maintenance and repair to building ceilings, walls, doors widows and floors, and general repairs to building exteriors.
  • Identify problems and initiates timely corrective action with construction issues, contractors, and sub-contractors.
  • Negotiate necessary changes and oversees project modifications.
  • Issue progress reports.
  • Assure timely completion of projects.
  • Verify and approve applications for payment.
  • Review shop drawings, maintain project files.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining project budgets.
  • Evaluate and identify facilities in order to determine renovation and repair priorities.
  • CAD Operator to provide drawings and documents which describe the size and character of a project as to architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical systems; including materials and such other elements as may be appropriate.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
RequirementsEducation: College degree or equivalent relevant experience required. Master's degree or trade-related professional degree preferred. Prior experience: 5 years experience in field of construction project management. Licenses & Certifications:
  • Possess and maintain a valid Connecticut driver's license.
  • Shall be competent in understanding OSHA General Industry standards. 30-hour certification or equivalent preferred.

  • Shall have knowledge of and understand facilities related federal, state and local regulations.
  • Knowledge of and experience using Computer-aided Design (CAD).
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills and be able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be accessible and available in the event of emergencies or for events scheduled during non-regular business hours.
  • Able and willing to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the 24/7 Manager On Call .
  • Decides when and how to make major capital repairs while always considering the effect on customer service, financial resources and best interests of the school.
  • Decides when to call in staff and outside contractors for emergencies or circumstances requiring unique special services.
  • Recommends and oversees capital projects of up to approximately $2.5 million annually.
  • Direct supervision of contracted labor.
  • This position requires dealing with a wide range of complex administrative and technical tasks where frequent independent interpretation and decision is required. This position directly affects the effectiveness of the Facilities Department and the school community as a whole. Successful completion of responsibilities results in an attractive, efficient, and reliable operating facility accomplished within the allocated budget. Unsuccessful completion of responsibilities results in the negative of the aforementioned, as well as the potential of serious damage to facilities and possible serious injury or loss of life to employees or residents.
