Job Description:
At Sovereign, one of our guiding principles on every project and in every office is, Behavior Based Safety Every Minute of Every Day and we're currently looking for a Safety Specialist who will support and audit our new construction-based programs and reinforce our commitment to safety. As a Safety Specialist, you will work as a Team with the Project Managers, employees, subcontractors and Director of Corporate Health and Safety. Your primary responsibilities center on the successful implementation and support of the Site-Specific Safety Plans in the field for each project. You will assist the Project Managers with the application of the client safety expectations, Sovereign Corporate Safety Manual and Safe Work Procedures, OSHA and all other laws governing the work. You will also verify to ensure that work is being executed as planned, problem-solve with operations, assist with corrective measures, and provide resources to correct and maintain solutions. Position OVERVIEW Sovereign construction division specializes in water/wastewater construction projects throughout the Northeast. With our experienced and dedicated employees, extensive resources and in-depth market knowledge, the New Jersey office is growing exponentially. OFFICE LOCATION Robbinsville, NJ, Mine Hill NJ, Cherry Hill NJ RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, review, update, and communication of the SSSP to everyone including subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with staff in the field to encourage and to support the company safety culture.
  • Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to company policies, regulations, work plans, and detailed work plans.
  • Plan, prioritize, and problem-solve with operations in the field based on leading indicator trends and upcoming work.
  • Encourage, support, inspire, and advise staff and craft employees to execute the SSSP.
  • Assist with maintaining project files in compliance with OSHA regulations and in compliance with our policies including accident/injury files.
  • Assist with first aid and maintaining annual physical appointments for personnel.
  • Assist with incident investigations (RCA), and implementation of effective solutions.
  • Complete a daily documented hazard inspection and assist operations, craft, and subcontractors to identify potential hazards and risks.
  • Review work plans, with project manager prior to the start of work.
  • Assist Director of Corporate Health and Safety, to provide safety training on policies, procedures, OSHA/MSHA, orientation, and client specific requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 0-3 years of work experience supporting construction safety operations
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Safety, Construction, or a related field of study is preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction safety standards, current federal, and OSHA requirements.
  • Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
License/Certification:
  • OSHA 30
  • OSHA 10
  • OSHA 510 and /or 500 a plus
  • EM 385-1-1 (40 hr. training course)
  • Fall Protection
  • Confined Space
