SUMMARY: The Construction Superintendent (CS) will oversee and coordinate daily construction activities in an active project setting to assure the seamless and successful execution of project objectives. The Superintendent will work with the project director and/or project manager to develop execution strategies, schedules, and detailed plans to safely and efficiently execute project field work to meet client, business, and project milestones. The Superintendent will provide technical support and knowledge to on-site trade personnel of varying trade disciplines and will demonstrate proficiency in the processes and methodologies to successfully complete site-specific work. This will include technical trade knowledge and aptitudes favoring means & methods, site/trade coordination, complex installations, logistics, schedule management, site safety and field quality assurance. The Superintendent must possess the ability to determine whether installations conform to all applicable drawings and specifications and implement corrective actions for any non-conformities. The Superintendent must also possess leadership and management qualities; both are required to be successful in the role. As a leader, the Superintendent must have effective communication skills to build consensus with project team members and stakeholders. The Superintendent is responsible for documenting daily field activities that include photographs, manpower reports, delays, daily reports, safety observations, conversations, deliveries, and all other activities that are necessary to maintain a complete and accurate record of the project's progress and activities. The Superintendent reports directly to the Senior Construction Manager or Project Manager onsite and ultimately the Project Director. This is a full-time, FLSA exempt position and requires at least 40 hours per week with the ability to work more if necessary. This position will require the ability to travel to a number of our project sites located in the SW Michigan region. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages all on-site construction functions in accordance with the established precedents, policies, procedures, systems, and requirements established by CSM Group.
  • Demonstrates mastery in the construction project workflow and plans accordingly.
  • Identifies risks that may jeopardize the project's timely or safe completion and mitigates risk.
  • Attends Project Coordination/Preconstruction Meetings and provides constructability input.
  • Reviews Bid Documents and Bid Review Documents to gain scope familiarity.
  • Participates in Pre-Bid Meetings and Post-Bid Interviews.
  • Coordinates and chairs a project kickoff meeting prior to subcontractor mobilization.
  • General safety supervision and awareness with the support of safety specialists.
  • Responsible for managing project execution including, but not limited to:
    • Trade/ Vendor Coordination & logistics
    • Daily Reports
    • Development of Project Schedule
    • Manages and Updates Project Master Schedule and 3-week look-ahead schedule regularly
    • Drives outcomes in the field to support the schedule's milestones
    • Site Supervision and Project Coordination
    • Daily review and authorization of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) forms, hot work permits, confined space, crane lift plans and inspections, etc.
    • Quality Control Inspections
  • Coordination with Authorities Having Jurisdiction for permit issuance and signoff.
  • Facilitates Progress Meetings among trades and applicable stakeholders.
  • Leverages available Business Technology platforms to maximize efficiency, including Procore, BlueBeam, MS Teams, MS OneNote, MS Word, MS Project, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Smart Phone Applications, iPads, etc.
  • The proficient and effective use and navigation of IT tools, software, dashboards, and other technology platforms is a requirement.
  • Monitors performance, progress, and manpower issues; resolves as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as mandated by the Senior PM/CM and Project Director.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • At least 8 years of related construction management experience within heavy construction, preferably for a Construction Management, General Contracting, or trade contracting firm.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field is a plus, but not required assuming a combination of relevant education and experience that is commensurate with the duties/responsibilities outlined.
  • Knowledge of building codes (IBC, NEC, ASME, UMC, NFPA, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Trade certifications and licenses are desirable.
  • Proven track record of solid safety implementation and successful safety
performance record.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour training program is desirable.
  • Experience with projects valued at more than $25,000,000 is highly desirable.
  • Minimum Training on Utilizing Equipment, such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, fork trucks, etc.
  • Proficiency in contemporary technology platforms, or an ability and willingness to learn.

For Field positions, while performing this job, the employee must frequently inspect the project site and may be exposed to ongoing construction activities, vibrations, noise, and various outside weather conditions (in all seasons). Work environment involves moderate risks which may require safety precautions. The noise level in the work environment may range from quiet to loud. The proper use of Personnel Protective Equipment (including but not limited to safety boots, hardhat, and protective eyewear) is required on the jobsite.
