The Superintendent is responsible for the safe, successful, efficient and profitable management of all field operations of the project including the daily activities of the Foreman and communicating the necessary labor needs of the project so that it can be constructed on schedule and budget.
This position requires an advanced knowledge of construction activities which include not only field tasks such as layout, earth moving operations, utility installation, paving operations and scheduling and coordination of these tasks, as well as budgeting and cost projection. A strong communications background is necessary to convey the project requirements to the Foreman and work through daily issues with the owner's representative.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Pre-Job Functions
Meet with the Project Manager and develop a complete list of labor and equipment requirements for the project
Have a thorough understanding of the scope of the project and contract so that it is clearly understood when extra work is being requested. The Project Manager will be notified of this extra work and a method will be determined for payment.
Job In-Progress Functions
Ensure compliance of Rifenburg Companies' Safety Policies on the project, and execute the necessary disciplinary procedures when necessary.
Daily communication with Owner's Representative (responsible for payment) in regard to clarifying and assigning proper payment of work completed each day and follow up as necessary.
Maintain the quality control on the project.
Ordering necessary labor, equipment, trucks, materials and subcontractors to be sure that the work is completed according to the project schedule. (Outlook of 1 or more weeks)
Preparing (with Foreman) weekly schedules for all labor, equipment, trucking, supply and subcontractors required. This will be submitted to Project Manager on Thursdays.
Supervise and assist the Foreman, as required, in the assignment and direction of personnel, equipment, trucks, material and subcontractors.
Assure that our equipment is cared for, maintained on a daily basis, and is not abused.
Develop amicable and cooperative relationships with local officials, residents, inspectors and owners to eliminate misunderstandings and to assure acceptance of the work that is completed in accordance with plans and specifications
Maintain a continuing positive attitude toward the recruitment, orientation and training of qualified personnel with the view to making advancement when merited and warranted by job requirements. Use discipline when appropriate and according to company policy.
Review regularly with the Project Manager the cost report for the project and conduct reviews of the budgets with the Foreman. Be sure the project is operating within budget.
Maintain a written record of the job conditions and progress under his supervision and require that job Foreman maintain a daily log of job conditions and progress. Audit these reports daily.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
This position requires a full understanding of construction activities which is typically gained with five or more years of construction management experience. Sitework, Heavy highway and underground utility experience a plus. An Associate's Degree is preferred for this position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This individual will manage two to five Foremen who oversee crews of two to twelve individuals. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
