Company Description
GridAxon is a professional services company that provides strategic, technical, and economic consulting support to various entities in the energy sector, focusing on Renewable Energy & Grid Modernization targets. The company leverages advanced technologies like machine learning and deep learning to develop innovative solutions for energy challenges.
Role Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Power Systems Simulation Engineer with strong experience in Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) analysis and PSCAD simulations. In this role, you will be responsible for performing detailed EMT studies and dynamic simulations to support the development, integration, and operational performance of renewable energy projects and power systems infrastructure. Your work will be critical in ensuring grid stability, reliability, and regulatory compliance for a range of renewable and hybrid energy projects, including solar, wind, and energy storage.
Role Description
- Conduct EMT simulations using PSCAD to evaluate the impact of renewable energy and distributed energy resources (DERs) on the transmission and distribution grid.
- Perform dynamic modeling and transient analysis to assess the behavior of power systems under fault conditions, switching events, and other disturbances.
- Develop and validate PSCAD models for various components, including generators, inverters, FACTS devices, and HVDC systems, to accurately simulate power system behavior.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including transmission planning, protection engineering, and regulatory affairs, to ensure compliance with utility and regulatory standards.
- Analyze simulation results to identify potential risks, operational limitations, and required mitigations for grid stability.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations to communicate study results, findings, and recommendations to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Assist in developing standardized EMT simulation procedures and templates to improve efficiency and accuracy of analysis.
- Stay updated on emerging EMT and PSCAD methodologies, software advancements, and industry trends to incorporate best practices into project work.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in power systems analysis, with a strong focus on EMT simulations and PSCAD.
- Proficiency in PSCAD and other EMT software tools (e.g., ATP, EMTP-RV, or RTDS); knowledge of PSSE, PowerWorld, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of power systems, renewable energy integration, and the challenges associated with transient and dynamic stability.
- Experience in modeling and simulating a range of power system components, including renewable energy sources (solar, wind), energy storage systems, FACTS, and HVDC systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex simulation data and draw actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills with experience preparing technical reports, presentations, and the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with utility interconnection standards and grid codes (e.g., IEEE, NERC, FERC) is highly desirable.
