Consulting Associate, Geology (Entry Level)

ERM is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Junior Level Geologist/Hydrogeologist/Data Analyst Hydrogeologist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota that has Groundwater Modeling capabilities to join our consulting firm. This position will include working with project managers and other technical resources on a multitude of interesting and challenging site investigation, remediation, and water resource projects. Examples include projects that apply water supply evaluation, mine dewatering and impact assessment, groundwater-surface water interactions, groundwater flow, and fate and transport modeling based in geology, hydrogeology and groundwater modeling (both analytical and numerical). You will have the opportunity to work on projects based in the United States and internationally (travel not required) which allows for an opportunity to engage with ERM's world-class technical experts to implement the latest methods to best support various phases of the work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work individually and as part of a project team to assist with a multi-faceted role to discuss and drive projects forward.
  • Support developing 3D geological model conceptualizations and construction for use in all phases of a project life cycle.
  • Have or become familiar with specialized software in the 3D environment, specifically Leapfrog.
  • Support hydrogeologic evaluations such as capture zone analyses, pumping test evaluation, and data visualization/reduction/organization.
  • Plan, participate, and oversee field work which can include hydraulic testing (slug and aquifer testing), well installation, sample collection, drilling log and geologic cross-section preparation.
  • Onsite investigations of well installation, sample collection, drilling log and geologic cross-section preparation.
  • Work plan and technical report support and development.
  • Work closely with GIS experts to develop visually compelling and informative graphics.
  • Prepare and present project data for internal and external client-facing purposes using data visualization approaches, including use of data analytical tools.
  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
  • Fieldwork opportunities for the above may be year-round and require some travel away.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors in geology, geological engineering, or hydrogeology.
  • Familiarity and interest with practical experience in the field of hydrogeology.
  • Groundwater modeling experience and comfortable familiarity with MODFLOW/MT3D, newer versions of MODFLOW such as USG or MODFLOW6, and other codes.
  • Experience with programmatically working with modeling data for input/output generation such as Fortran, Python, or R is preferred.
  • Experience with data analytics and visualization tools is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports is required.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to succeed in a consulting pace, handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.
