BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The primary focus of this position is to perform inspections of weighing and measuring devices. The position inspects, tests, and approves for use, commercial meters in the sale of petroleum products, large and small capacity scales and other measuring instruments used in commercial transactions that impact industry and consumers. This position may also perform inspection of package checking and method of sale, wood measurement, vehicle tank meters, propane meters, and other inspections as required as set forth by State rules, regulations, and Division policy. Applicant must be able to gather information, interpret regulations, assess findings to determine non-compliance, and write non-compliance records in an accurate, descriptive, and precise manner. Weights and measures knowledge, inspection experience, mechanical repair, good mathematical skills, and computer literacy are a plus. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four (4) years of education, training, and/or experience in the field of microbiology, agricultural science, food science, applied mechanics, regulatory/law enforcement, or weights & measures.LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees after hire but prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Federal (USDA)/State Inspector License for the products being inspected.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION: Must be willing to attend out-of-state training. Must successfully complete all training with a passing grade. Must be willing to work a schedule that may include holidays and scheduled days off as necessary. Must be willing to perform relief inspections statewide.
