Job DescriptionDefinition The employee collaborates with teachers to effectively adjust instructional strategies, classroom management, and assessment techniques to ensure student achievement. Collaborates at the school level also with the principal and assistant principal(s) to improve student achievement. Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement lesson plans to provide diversified lessons specifically designed for targeted students. Use instructional materials suitable for verbal and visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity. Provide individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students. Conduct small group instruction for struggling students. Identify students' needs through the use of district-approved assessments and common formative assessments. Provide appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet school/district policies, goals, and objectives. Support and work with principals, teachers, and school improvement teams to gain knowledge of the needs and strengths of each school. Collaborate with principals to identify teachers who will benefit most from the support of the Content Teacher. Counsel and advise teachers on a variety of topics, issues, and areas. Model instructional best practices through demonstration teaching. Collaborate with teachers and assist teachers in implementing effective practices. Utilize assessment information before, during, and after instruction to guide instructional design. Assist with the design and implementation of building-level professional learning. Provide teacher support and resources for identified professional learning initiatives in the form of modeling, coaching, providing feedback, and facilitating group discussion. Assist in analyzing data relative to the impact on activities and student achievement. Maintain confidentiality of data and information. Mentor beginning teachers and teachers new to North Carolina; trained as a mentor by Gaston County Schools. Support and participate in Professional Learning Communities. Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Employee must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative, flexible, and highly organized. Thorough knowledge of educational curriculum, instructional methodology, and technology with a strong background and implementation of effective instructional practices through professional learning. Must possess appropriate presentation skills as they relate to the professional learning of teachers, administrators, and classified personnel, central office, and others. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, and classified personnel. Ability to analyze situations, determine possible options, and appropriate decisions based on the facts and specific situations. Ability to work with a variety of staff, programs, and activities. Ability to use sound judgment in approaching and working with sensitive and delicate situations. Ability to compile and complete reports in a timely manner. Demonstrated a high level of technology skills. Possess general working knowledge of Title I regulations, goals, and objectives, particularly school-wide programs. Proven experience with adult learners. Understanding the growth and development of students in assigned school. Demonstrated experience at closing the achievement gap and raising test scores. Strong understanding of Common Core and Essential Standards.Physical Requirements Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects. Must possess the visual acuity to operate required office equipment and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions. Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with records processes, and do extensive reading and research.Minimum Education and Experience Minimum of Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university. Master's degree in the field of education preferred. Five years of successful classroom teaching. Licensed as a teacher in North Carolina.
