Title: Control Room OperatorLocation: Topsham, MEPay: $38-$44/HourSchedule: 12 Hour Rotating 2-3-2 Schedule (every other weekend off) - 5 O'Clock In/Out TimeWhy Work Here?This position will run the control room of a 24/7/365 utility scale power generation plant providing vital utilities to Topsham and the surrounding areas. The plant is a key generator in the area and it will continue to operate many many years into the future making job stability top notch at this location. Our client is a proponent of promoting from within and has a path for this position to become Shift Supervisor and continue to progress within the organization if desired. Candidates with turbine, boiler, steam system, pulp & paper, maritime, and other industrial backgrounds will be considered for the position.Job Description:
  • Operate the plant and all associated equipment under the direction of the Plant Manager, utilizing the DCS system to ensure operation within specified parameters.
  • Perform plant startups, shutdowns, and casualty control safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor plant operations and adjust as needed to optimize performance.
  • Monitor and maintain emissions control equipment, adjusting as necessary to meet State and Federal permits.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures during operation to assist maintenance technicians in identifying required repairs.
  • Perform proficiency watches outside the Control Room as required and effectively communicate plant status to the Plant Operator and Auxiliary Plant Operator.
  • Maintain a clean and safe Control Room environment.
  • Keep accurate records of plant operations, reviewing and analyzing records for pending failures.
  • Conduct plant startups and shutdowns, as well as weekly and monthly checklists.
  • Train and provide direction to Plant Operators in plant DCS operations.
  • Accurately maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Proactively seek responsibility to support the company's business needs.
  • Always exhibit professional behavior.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in planned and forced outages and turnarounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
  • Valid State of Maine 3rd Engineer's license or greater is preferred.
  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of power plant equipment, including motors, pumps, boilers, turbines, generators, fluid systems, chemical handling, water treatment systems, cooling towers, and pollution control equipment (such as dust suppression, bag house, scrubber, selective catalytic reduction unit), as well as AC and DC electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Basic understanding of fundamental principles of physics, mathematics, AC and DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermodynamics, chemistry, and metallurgy.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, such as P&IDs, single-line diagrams, schematics, and logics.
  • Knowledge of power plant safety, particularly in areas such as chemical handling, high-energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipment operations.
  • Ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with power plant equipment, as well as basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, rigging equipment, and other implements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Capability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.
