Job Description:

Overview

Direct plant and process activities in a safe and efficient manner. Supervises hourly employees in all production processes, plans and assigns work. Recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. Manages the quality and production of the rotary lime kiln and hydrator in a safe and efficient manner. Monitors quality by performing various lab testing on the product, as needed.

Requirements

* Education: High School Diploma required; Technical Degree is preferred.

* Experience: 3-5 years working in an industrial environment and running a kiln with at least 3 years of supervising others preferred.

* Certifications: Prior safety training preferred.

* Licenses: Must obtain a valid Driver's License.

* Knowledge: Must be able to learn and understand all plant processes. Basic knowledge of Chemistry, Thermo processes, and product handling equipment is required. Basic electrical, mechanical maintenance, Microsoft Office including Word and Excel also required.

* Skills: Supervision skills, including developing, mentoring, and when necessary, disciplining hourly employees. Basic computer skills and strong communication skills required.

* Abilities: Must possess a demonstrated ability to lead hourly employees and get results through others. Ability to think ahead and plan over a specific time span and prepare action plans to achieve results. Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, environmental, plant reliability, productivity, cost efficiency, waste reduction, and employee relations in a unionized environment. Ability to manage multiple priorities. Must be willing to work rotating shifts, overtime, and holidays. Must be willing to work independently and under minimal supervision at times.

Must be self-motivated and have initiative to work as an empowered team with on-site employees to operate a safe and efficient plant, maximize production and reduce costs. Be able to work around water and not have a fear of water. Must be able to climb stairs & ladders and not have a fear of heights.

Essential Functions

* Collaborate with other shift supervisors and plant leadership to deliver a consistent message before communicating to the hourly workforce.

* Communicate with supervisors at shift change regarding shift activities, open items, employee matters, etc. Send text/email at shift change to plant leadership regarding the same.

* Perform routine and regular plant inspections in all work areas (regular workplace, spillage, clean-up, illumination.) Perform routine and spot audits on various tasks within the plant.

* Maintain good housekeeping practices throughout the plant.

* Work closely with Plant Leadership and HR to discipline as needed based on Company policy and CBA.

* Maintain attendance records for each hourly employee; track absences in master spreadsheet in accordance with policy and CBA, identify policy/CBA non-compliance, instill discipline in coordination with Plant Leadership and HR.

* Tracking and documenting Union Hourly timecards into Workforce Management (WFM) to ensure employees are paid properly.

* Review all workplace exams and mobile equipment inspections each shift, follow up with tagging areas, clean-up, hand-over, closure of actions.

* Facilitate and participate in daily and weekly huddle/toolbox/safety talks and safety presentations for the production department and enforce safety rules, procedures and regulation.

* Direct plant and process activities in coordination with the Control Room Operator.

* Ensure all employees are trained on tasks and signed off and records maintained.

* Maintain vacation balances for each hourly employee; approve or decline requests, enter data into master vacation tracking database, ensure coverage if needed.

* Create and prioritize work requests using the EAM software, coordinating activities with the maintenance department.

* Develop and ensure that specified QCQA procedures are being adhered to.

* Adjust the process to efficiently meet product demand.

* An emergency fill-in for all operation's hourly employees (process attendant, lime shipper, hydrate operator, lab tech, etc.) Assist hydrator Operator as needed.

* Monitor process parameters to ensure required throughputs and quality levels are met, while ensuring environmental compliance.

* Ensure that production samples are collected, analyzed, and resulting material is directed to the appropriate areas.

* Record specific kiln data, quality data, and environmental data into the appropriate spreadsheets

* Assures that product meets quality standards by controlling processes and by performing required quality tests and utilizing SPC and TQM techniques obtained through on-going training. Obtain samples as needed.

* Operates computer-controlled processes and operate stone crushing system as needed. Troubleshoot process problems and implement process improvements.

* Employees are expected to perform other responsibilities as needed.
