Overview of Westchester Soccer Club Westchester Soccer Club (Westchester SC) is the first home-grown professional soccer club in Westchester, NY. Located in one of the densest area's in the United States and in the United Soccer League's (USL) market, the club aims to bring top quality professional soccer to the NY area with the goal to compete for the championship every year. The club will have an Academy which shows a strong commitment to nurturing local talent and the club aims to build a world-class development pipeline for both boys and girls in the Westchester (and surrounding) areas. The club is dedicated to celebrating the region's profound love for soccer through exciting game experiences and community-focused events. The club's first team will play in the professional league USL League One (USL1) and the Academy will participate in the USL Academy and Super Y league. Position Description The Controller will be a key member of the finance team and will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial documents and statements, developing and implementing internal control policies and procedures, coordinating and directing budgeting practices, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards. Duties and Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Preparation of financial statements
  • Implementation and maintenance of a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, and a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Daily bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Account reconciliations, including centralized team travel
  • Responsible for accounts receivable collections and monitoring of past due accounts
  • Weekly reporting of ticketing and merchandise revenue
  • Identification and research of budget variances
  • Providing guidance on cost analysis process
  • Prepare year-end audit and tax schedules as needed for auditors
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of professional work experience in finance & accounting required
  • Public Accounting experience preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • CPA license a plus
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Discretion in handling confidential materials and information
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members, executives, member clubs, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast, and deadline-driven environment
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work to meet business needs, which may include evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel if necessary
