Location: Elkins,WV, USA
Full-time position with benefits. Successful applicant performs a wide range of duties to manage accounting functions of the College, to include audit engagement, financial reporting, internal controls, GAAP compliance, tax compliance, budgeting, processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable, and support of payroll functions.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the direction of the VP for Business & Administration, the Controller/Director of Accounting will:
* Maintain general ledger accounts and perform or direct periodic internal review of transactions, accounting coding, and prepare any required correction or reclassification journal entries
* Manage reconciliation of multiple bank accounts and the College's investment and trust accounts and reconcile them to the general ledger on a monthly basis
* Manage preparation of monthly internal financial statements as well as the final annual statements prepared for audit
* Assist with preparation of the annual operating budget and ensure that budget is created within the accounting database upon Board approval, prepare and analyze monthly operating budget reports with operating variances
* Manage maintenance and reconciliation of fixed asset schedules and protection of assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls
* Manage reconciliation of sub-ledgers to general ledger account balances, as needed
* Work closely with department managers to assist in understanding budget(s) and financial results
* Manage proper grant accounting to include:
* establish, review and maintain grants and contributions files
* account for grants and contributions in the financial system
* prepare grants and contributions financial reports, as needed
* document policies and procedures for grants and contributions
* prepare monthly reconciliation of grants and contributions-general ledger and Development's system records
* review and verify grant and contract revenue and related expenditures for documentation, compliance, and audit accuracy
* Manage processing of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions
* Support payroll processing and reporting functions
* Report results of internal reviews to the VP for Business and Administration with proposed corrective measures
* Manage College's preparation for annual external independent audit, coordinating with audit team
* Assist with preparation of the IRS Form 990 and any related state filings
* Assist with financial presentations for Board, Cabinet and other meetings, as needed
* Assist with establishing, monitoring and enforcing financial policies and procedures
* Perform other related responsibilities, projects, and assignments as assigned by the VP for Business and Administration
* Responsible for working extended hours during peak workload periods
QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited four year college or university is required
* CPA or CMA certification preferred but not required
* Three years' accounting experience (nonprofit a plus)
* Contributions and grants accounting experience preferred but not required
* Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills
* Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and demonstrate a sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles in a non-profit environment
