JK Executive Strategies is proud to partner with real estate company with a focus on the self-storage industry in search of a Controller to join its team!
The Controller will be responsible for daily and monthly accounting work and entity management, as well as financial analytics such as budgeting, forecasting and various financial modeling tasks as deemed necessary. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation of general accounting processes and procedures. The Controller will work independently and be exceedingly well organized, flexible and able to produce high quality work under stringent deadlines with a very high level of accuracy in detail-oriented tasks.

Responsibilities
- Complete general accounting tasks to include month end close, accrual schedule maintenance, bank reconciliations, and intercompany reconciliations. As part of the month end close process, integrate monthly accounting from third party property management companies with ownership expenses for the same properties in QuickBooks.
- Review and audit of third-party management company income and expenses to ensure proper allocation and billing in accordance with contracted terms.
- Manage transactional tasks to include intercompany balance management, accounts receivable management including monthly invoices, accounts payable management, and vendor management (such as ensuring contract is in place and related correspondence).
- Oversee the data entry and processing of non-self-storage rent.
- Entity management including EIN administration, ensuring proper legal documents exist, maintaining entity ownership list, and ensuring adequate insurance is in place, etc.
- Participate in construction budgeting, general forecasting, variance analysis and various financial modeling projects.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a strong internal controls environment.
- Assist the external CPA with reporting to federal, state and local taxing authorities.
- Prioritize and manage work appropriately, and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
- Create new processes to improve financial and operational efficiency.
- Additional duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, required; Master's degree, preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant designation, preferred.
- 4+ years of accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Real estate experience, a plus.
- Deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial statements and budgets based upon them.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to streamline accounting practices.
- Ability to exercise judgment in performing subjective accounting analysis.
- Strong organizational and planning skills and an ability to perform under deadline pressure.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to successfully and professionally manage multiple projects, priorities and changes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experienced information gathering, information monitoring and critical thinking skills.
- Solid work ethic. Professional and proactive approach to work. Positive, confident, committed.
- Self-starter, independent worker, who is not hesitant to ask for direction when required.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of matters.
- High proficiency in QuickBooks, MS Office Word, and Excel.
Salary Range: $110k - 115k
