LOCATION: Shelbyville, TN (partial remote work opportunities)REPORTS TO: Vice President & Chief Financial Officer JOB DESCRIPTION Works as a strategic partner with the CFO and finance team to ensure accounting practices are maintained efficiently and are in compliance with company policies and meet the requirements of GAAP, TVA, FERC, RUS and our lenders. Responsible for managing the monthly closing process within the accounting system. Works with the accounting team and other key organization stakeholders on a variety of accounting functions to ensure that workflow is efficient, and reporting is completed accurately and timely. JOB DESCRIPTIONInternal Responsibilities - Works collaboratively with the finance team and other internal stakeholders to ensure the timely and accurate completion of the cooperative's financial records and reporting. This position does not currently have supervisory responsibilities; however, this position may grow to include supervision within the finance team depending on candidate abilities and personal growth objectives. External Responsibilities - Communicates with external federal, state, and local agencies, auditors, financial institutions and lenders. Consults with representatives from RUS, TVA, NRECA and TECA as needed. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Consistently demonstrates a behavioral pattern that supports DREMC's 11 Essential Attributes.
  • Serve as a key partner with the VP & CFO on a wide range of financial matters relating to financial performance, cashflow, accounting and controls, and debt management.
  • Ensures all internal and external required filings, reports, and analyses are completed in a timely manner with a high degree of proficiency.
  • Maintains working knowledge of accounting software system necessary to input data and to identify and remedy discrepancies in the general ledger.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the monthly and annual financial closing process and required reports including the annual TVA report and the annual RUS Form 7 report.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of effective internal controls of financial reporting.
  • Assists in managing the Cooperatives debt portfolio to include applications for new debt and the timely reporting for existing debt obligations.
  • Assists the VP & CFO in developing and implementing effective finance processes, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for compliance with regulations and reporting for sales and use tax with the State of Tennessee.
  • Maintains confidential employee and member information.
  • Regularly monitors and stays informed about the latest industry standard guidelines and regulations.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Emergency response coverage as needed.
  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation - Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field is required. MBA and/or CPA is a plus. Additional industry certifications are preferred. 8 years of accounting related work experience in lieu of education will be considered. Experience - Minimum of seven (7) years of accounting experience is required. Utility/RUS/FERC accounting experience preferred. Experience with TVA as a wholesale provider is preferred. Certification/License, etc. - Certificates and/or licenses relevant to utilities and accounting are preferred. Valid Tennessee Driver's License or ability to obtain license prior to first day of employment is required. Must be eligible to remain insured as a driver by the Cooperative's group liability policy for the automotive fleet. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Possess knowledge of general accounting principles and practices with the ability to analyze financial information. A broad understanding of the utility industry is desired. Excellent communication skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Attention to accuracy and detail is required. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Work and Outlook. Experience with Meridian UPN or NISC is preferred.
