POSITION SUMMARY:
The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and supervision of finance office staff to ensure the agency's internal financial operations are carried out in accordance with generally accepted accounting and auditing practices. The controller will provide the accurate and current financial information needed by executive management and the Board for their oversight responsibilities, and supplies other financial information required for short and long-range planning. These responsibilities will be carried out during a time of ongoing organizational change during which time management and staff prepare for rapid growth and expansion. The Controller must demonstrate a mission-focused, seasoned, strategic, and process-minded organizational leadership while developing a high-performance culture among a group of diverse individuals. Teamwork is of the essence within the finance office and among other organizational entities throughout the agency.
KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provides leadership, direction, and supervision to ensure timely completion and appropriate maintenance of the general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, payroll imports, billing, and other finance operations.
* Directs and coordinates general accounting, financial, and statistical reporting including preparation of financial reports such as income, balance sheets, cash flow, and other statements of performance.
* Assists Senior Staff Accountant - Grants with financial reports required for federal, state, and local grants, and collaborates with other agency staff to prepare reports with financial and program elements.
* Provides leadership, direction, and supervision to develop policies and procedures for the timely operation of procurement such that the practices conform to all regulatory and agency requirements.
* Supervises Accounts Payable staff and ensures that payables are processed in a timely and accurate manner.
* Ensures that inventory and property records are properly recorded, filed, and current.
* Works with CFO to prepare the annual budget, analyses, forecasts, and other reports required by management and Board of Directors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections. Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
* 5+ years of non-profit fund accounting and federal grant management experience
* 5+ years of Sage Intacct experience required
* Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
* Completion of a master's degree in finance or accounting, five to ten years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position, and/or a CPA, preferred but not required.
