If you'd like to know more, check out all of the .NIAGARA UNIVERSITY - CONTROLLER JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB SUMMARY:Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Controller plays a key role in managing the university's financial operations, ensuring fiscal integrity, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Direct the preparation and issuance of financial statements, annual reports, and regulatory filings in accordance with GAAP and applicable standards for higher education institutions
- Oversee monthly and yearly closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial records
- Manage the annual external audit process and coordinate with auditors
- Develop and maintain financial forecasting models and long-range planning analyses
- Design and implement internal control systems to safeguard university assets
- Oversee treasury, accounts payable, student accounts, payroll, purchasing and general accounting operations
- Oversee risk management and university insurance policies
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax requirements
- Monitor and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and other accounting transactions
- Supervise and develop accounting staff, including hiring, training, and performance management
- Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to provide financial guidance and support
- Serve on university committees related to finance and administration
- Act as liaison with banking institutions and external financial partners
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILTIES:
- Advanced proficiency in financial management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex organization

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, or finance
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a management role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP

- Salary Range $90,000-$100,000
