Full-Time (Exempt Administrative Appointment, 260 days), 1.0FTE

WORK LOCATION/TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:

MCC offers the option of alternative work arrangements (hybrid/flex schedules). The incumbent may be eligible for remote work upon approval of the MCC Administration.

PURPOSE/SUMMARY OF JOB:

The position of the Controller is responsible for the recording, analyzing, reconciliation, and maintenance of all financial records of the institution in an automated environment. This includes preparation of financial statements, performing financial analysis, maintaining appropriate internal control measures, security of records, grants, and contracts accounting, monitoring approved budgets, and preparation of financial reports to external agencies and college personnel. The Controller shall perform all duties while promoting opportunities for inclusion, expressing the value of differences, and regularly demonstrating the college's commitment to the Guiding Principles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Coordinates accounting functions of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cashiering, payroll, and capital construction. Ensures accounting functions are accomplished in an accurate and expeditious manner and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, SBCCOE and State Fiscal Rules and Policies, federal and state regulations, and institutional policies and requirements. Conducts reconciliations, makes adjustments, and analyzes accounts. (23%)

* Conducts the preparation and analysis of periodic financial statements and performs year-end closing of financial records including preparation of internally generated financial statements for annual external audit. Implements recommendations brought about as a result of the independent financial audit. Works closely with CCCS Controller and fiscal staff, and State of Colorado financial accounting staff. (22%)

* Ensures grants and contracts are properly accounted for and reported as required. Work with grant coordinators to ensure proper grant activities, accounting, and reporting. (15%)

* Develops, implements, and modifies the internal accounting systems, sub-systems, chart of accounts, and records to meet the needs of the college. Makes adjustments and procedural changes as necessary. Ensure proper and current maintenance of the State's Colorado Financial Records System (CORE) and sub-systems, including capital construction accounting. (10%)

* Provide fiscal guidance and support to other departments within the College and throughout the service area, in order to facilitate smooth operations and maintain internal controls. Assists VP of Administration with analysis of accounts and budgets, budget preparation, monitoring and reporting. Conducts training for college personnel on the use of the institutional accounting systems. (8%)

* Supervises all accountant and accounting technician positions. Includes recommendation for hiring, problem resolution, ongoing training, leave approval, and written performance evaluations. (8%)

* Ensures proper and adequate internal controls and effective audit trails are maintained. Reviews existing procedures and implements or makes recommendations for new procedures as necessary. Keeps the Vice President of Administration informed of relevant accounting changes. (7%)

* Prepares financial data surveys such as IPEDS, Higher Learning Commission Annual Update, and other surveys and financial reporting needed for external data requests. (4%)

* Other duties as assigned. (1%)

* Based on the functions, this position is identified as a Campus Security Authority. As a Campus Security Authority the incumbent in this position is required to report allegations of Clery Act crimes that they become aware of to the Vice President of Student Services at Morgan Community College. Attends training pertaining to these responsibilities as required. (1%)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other closely related field from an accredited institution. An equivalent combination of education, professional experience, and acquired competencies may substitute for the bachelor's degree.

* Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

* Experience gained through increasingly responsible management and/or leadership/supervisory positions within accounting or finance including general ledger, cash receipts/disbursements, financial statements, audit and internal controls knowledge.

* Strong working knowledge of automated integrated accounting systems and advanced spreadsheet experience.

* Well-developed financial analysis capabilities.

* Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to build productive teams.

* Demonstrated visionary leadership, supervision, management, decision making, time management, goal setting, and organizational skills and abilities.

* Occasional long and irregular hours necessitated by special projects, compliance with deadlines, length of institutional day and week and committee service.

* Ability to travel out of town as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other closely related field.

* Certified Public Accountant.

* Experience in governmental accounting.

* Experience in higher education accounting.

* Experience in State of Colorado government accounting system (CORE) or Banner.

* Experience preparing and/or reviewing federal and state grant reporting.

Anticipated Start Date: December 2024

Salary and Benefits:

$69,200 to $92,805 based on education, skills and experience. The selected qualified candidate is eligible for a $10,000 new hire sign-on incentive within the first 60 days of employment, subject to the rules and requirements of the MCC New Hire Sign-On Incentive Protocol. Benefits include health, life, dental and vision insurance, LTD & benefit package including tuition reimbursement in accordance with Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System policies. No relocation assistance is provided.
