Position Summary
Are you a strategic, hands-on accounting leader ready to make a lasting impact? NCPC is seeking a Controller to oversee and manage the full scope of our accounting and finance operations. In this key role, you'll work directly with our CEO and Board of Directors to maintain fiscal discipline, develop financial strategies, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization. You will play a crucial role in supporting the organization's mission while managing day to day accounting functions, and leading financial planning, reporting, and compliance efforts.
This is a highly impactful, fully onsite position in Raleigh, NC where you will be part of a close-knit team of passionate professionals.
Key Responsibilities
As the Controller, you will:
- Manage accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, payroll, and benefits coordination.
- Oversee all financial functions, including budgeting, forecasting, and monthly/quarterly/annual financial reporting.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures to maintain financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with NCPC's strategic objectives.
- Collaborate closely with staff and Board members to provide financial insight and recommendations.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, financial institutions, and vendors (e.g., insurance carriers).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations, including those related to lobbying, campaign finance, and financial disclosures.
- Continuously monitor budget performance and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications
We're seeking a highly skilled accounting professional who thrives in a small, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (MBA/MSc/MA or CPA is a plus).
- 5+ years of accounting and financial management experience, ideally in a non-profit setting.
- Expertise in GAAP, financial reporting, and non-profit compliance.
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar) and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with payroll processing (CBIZ or similar systems).
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively.
- An ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
