Job DescriptionThe Controls Engineer will be expected to design, program, debug, and support automated systems and automation equipment for production. This individual will be responsible for offering electrical design input and assisting in concept and development efforts within the facility, either through infrastructure, programming, or design. A successful candidate will offer troubleshooting assistance on all electrical and/or controls equipment in an effort to resolve issues and gather data. The Controls Engineer role requires a collaborative team working style and ability to work with many other associates including management, machine operators, supervisors, and other engineers. Roles & Responsibilities:
- Develop cost estimates for electrical systems - including purchased components, design & install labor
- Design of electrical hardware circuit and safety control circuit for automated machines and equipment
- Create electrical hardware drawings and schematics
- Lead design review meetings with production, maintenance, quality control, and others as needed
- Program machine software (PLC, robot, vision, HMI, etc.)
- Debug of programming during machine build and early-stage running
- Research, develop, test, design, and implement current and new technologies
- Provide on-going technical support for in house technicians in the machine-building group
- Support/advise with machine specification development for outsourcing activities
- Prepare, update, and deliver professional training materials, such as operation manuals, instructions, and technical reports
Qualifications:
- 0-3 years of experience working as controls engineer or related role
- Bachelor degree in Electrical, Electrical Technology or Mechatronics, or a similar degree
- Analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Formal training or extensive experience on PLC's (ControlLogix, OMRON CJ & NJ), Robot (DENSO RC8), AutoCAD Electrical
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven project completion history with successful results
- Independently manage a workload consisting of long-term projects and unplanned day-to-day priorities
- Must be a hands-on person and values time invested on the shop floor working in and on the process
- Ability to use various scientific rules and methods to solve problems coupled with the ability to detect and solve problems effectively. Must execute root cause analysis to appropriately diagnose equipment or process issues to rectify complications rapidly
Job Summary:Responsible for planning, development, and supervision of projects requiring intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principle and practices in the selection and / or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in a broad area of assignments.Major Responsibilities:
- Process Capability and Capacity Planning
- Determine Future Equipment requirements.
- Assist with evaluating potential vendors, equipment makers, and services to meet required specifications.
- Investigate in-house manufacturing problems and recommend countermeasures.
- Research, develop, and test long term improvement ideas.
- Generate reports to clearly explain issues and / or results.
- Ability to read, troubleshoot, modify, and write PLC Ladder Logic.
- Working with Robotics, Vision Systems, and Laser Programming a plus.
- Mechanical Aptitude required.
- Ensure documentation meets IATF16949 and ISO9001.
- Maintain and generate process control plan specifications and process failure mode and effect analysis documentation.
- Maintain good working relationships with team members.
- Project Management - coordinate, schedule, and execute individual and multi-departmental projects plans, including full line implementation and start up.
Minor Responsibilities:
- Requires effective communication and involvement with all internal associates/departments and related outside resources.
- Requires teamwork and participation of company activities such as IATF 16949, ISO9001, ISO14001 and Employee Involvement.
- Requires some travel
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, industrial or other engineering disciplines.
- 0-3 years of relevant experience
Key Competencies:
- Must be able to effectively communicate problems / processes in both written and oral formats.
- Must have investigative and analytical skills in order to evaluate and make recommendations.
- Must have a working knowledge of all standard engineering principles.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires constant standing 8-12 hours per day
- Must be able to constantly lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and kneel.
- Must be able to apply up to 66 lbs push/pull force unassisted.
- Must be able to reach overhead.
Additional Roles and Responsibilities:
- Understand job responsibilities to perform, monitor and control the process as it affects Quality and Environmental Impacts.
- Follow all procedures and work instructions pertaining to your assignment and make recommendations to improve the process, as well as enhancements to the Environmental Management System.
- Notify Management immediately when problems or non-conformances are detected.
- Appropriately record problem and non-conformance to ensure corrective action and preventative measures are taken.
- Assist in the problem-solving process, corrective action and prevention activities.
- Contain or stop the process as necessary to prevent non-conforming material from contaminating good material or negatively impacting the Environment.

Annual Salary: $66,000-$83,000
