Available Shifts:2nd Shift: M-F 3PM-11:30PM3rd Shift: M-F 11PM-7:30AMJob Purpose:The Controls Technician is responsible for quickly troubleshooting plant control systems to minimize downtime. As necessary, coordinate with other skilled personnel to bring systems back online. Control systems include PLCs, robotics, networked controllers, supervisor controllers, process controllers, and AC or DC motors and drives. Maintain, troubleshoot, improve existing and lead the implementation of new instrumentation and control systems including design, specification, installation, calibration, and qualification activities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide technical input to drive safety, equipment reliability and productivity improvementsProvide technical support for capital projects requiring electrical, controls, instrumentation and/or programming integration.Coordinate work of integration contractors based on resource and/or technical expertise requirements.Conduct basic controls training for maintenance personnelShare expertise with production personnel by coaching them with tips to reduce automation downtimeAssist with environmental and safety compliancePerform all other task assigned as needed by the business and operationsIdentifying and correct control problems with PLCs, HMI displays, safety/operational interlocks, photo eyes, drives and servos.Using a laptop for running diagnostics of a controller including those on a network.Reading drawings such as electrical schematics, P&ID's (control loops), and ladder logic as an aid in troubleshooting.Understand industrial networking.Supports existing operations in the recommendation of process optimization strategies and hands-on implementation of process improvements with the goal of cost savings.Maintain proficiency in control software (e.g. Allen Bradley, Siemens, and other controls platforms) and machinery equipped with PLC's through vendor training and interaction with engineering personnel.Note: The employer reserves the right to change or assign other duties to this positionQualifications: High school diploma or equivalentIndustrial trad certification or diploma in a specific work-related area such as PLC or drive certifications preferred Five (5+) years' experience in the manufacturing industry, designing, installing and troubleshooting PLC and motion control software and hardware.Five (5+) years' experience in repair and maintenance of equipment or electronics, such as, servo drives, HMI and programmable controllers.Controls experience with the following:Interfacing with PC based control systems such as Ignition. HMI-SCADA-Historian system design, development and testing.Error recovery and troubleshooting for robot operations. Capability to operate teach pendant, re-teach position, and understand operation flow chart.Loading recipes and programs into controllers.Transferring drive parameters for AC or DC motor drive replacement.Running diagnostics and tune process controllers (such as temperature).Coordinate site instrument calibration program utilizing both internal and external calibration resources.
