Salary: $15.00 HourlyLocation : Macon, GAJob Type: Part TimeJob Number: 202200144Department: Solid WasteDivision: LandfillOpening Date: 04/30/2024Closing Date: ContinuousSummary SUMMARY:The Convenience Center Attendant is responsible for monitoring incoming traffic to the Center and/or overseeing the yard waste disposal area at the center. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Residential identification check to verify they are Macon-Bibb residents
  • Guides, directs, and spots all incoming vehicles to designated dumping areas.
  • Regulates number of vehicles dumping in any one area at the same time.
  • Advises and guides vehicles discarding certain chemicals or debris to specific designated areas.
  • Keeps watch on center equipment working in area to ensure safety and help to prevent accidents or bodily injury.
  • Assists in preventing scrounging in dumping areas.
  • Determines necessity of emptying dumpsters.
  • Completes special projects and performs other miscellaneous duties as required.
Education, Training and ExperienceQualified candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED, and some work experience involving the monitoring/direction of traffic flow; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess a valid Georgia Driver's License (CDL Preferred).
SUPERVISORY CONTROL AND RESPONSIBILITIES:None.TRAVEL:The Convenience Center Attendant will travel infrequently. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:The Convenience Center Attendant must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:
  • Considerable knowledge of safety techniques and practices used in spotting vehicles preferred but not mandatory.
  • Basic working knowledge of personal computers and the ability to operate word processing and database software programs to keep simple records, as required.
  • Ability to perform necessary record keeping pertaining to position held.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.
(ADA) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSLANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and understand written materials. Ability to effectively communicate information to supervisors, co-workers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in written form in a professional manner in order to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and/or provide service. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret and understand a variety of forms, reports, manuals, regulations, and other means of instruction and guidance.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
