OPEN COMPETITIVE JOB TITLE: Cook DEPARTMENT: Hualapai Adult Detention Center SALARY: D.O.E. OPENING DATE: September 19, 2024 CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled STATEMENT OF DUTIES and QUALIFICATIONS: The cooks' primary responsibilities are to provide healthy well-balanced meals and snacks for adult residents of the HADC and to provide supervision and instruction to 1-2 food service workers who assist in the preparation and service of meals and in the maintenance of the food service area. The Cook oversees the development of menus, ordering of food and non-food supplies, receiving, storing, and issue of all food and non-food items. Cooks will oversee all food service workers and adult workers in the safe operation of all food service equipment and in the preparation and delivery of meals. Along with all other correctional institution employees, the Cook is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution and strict control of all equipment and inventory. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have had sufficient training and experience to show the ability to perform the duties of the position. Physical/Sensory Requirements: The ability to: lift and carry up to 50 pounds; stand for extended periods of time; work in extremes of heat, moisture, and humidity; properly wear required safety clothing and/or equipment; tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals. Some positions within this classification may require the ability to react to physical confrontations and emergency situations quickly and effectively; work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time; hear and understand speech and radio transmissions. An ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience as a line cook in a restaurant and/or in an institutional setting and should be familiar with menu planning and the nutritional needs of adults. The Cook oversees the development of menus, ordering of food and non-food supplies, receiving, storing, and issue of all food and non-food items. NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS: Must have a High School Diploma or GED Must have a valid Arizona driver's license and be eligible for Tribe's insurance. Must submit to a drug and alcohol screening and random testing thereafter. Must have a favorable 10 year background investigation.
