THIS POSTING MAY BE USED TO FILL MULTIPLE POSITIONS.POSITION IS LOCATED IN TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, NM Why does the job exist?This position will be responsible for the preparation, cooking, service, and storage of meals and food items, in accordance with set menus; for the residents of the New Mexico State Veterans Home. Prepare, transport, and serve resident's meal in a manner that conserves nutritive value, flavor and appearance; food is palatable, attractive and at the proper temperature. How does it get done?Accurately measure, prepare, and cook ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment. Take-in food deliveries from an assortment of vendors, inventory and store food items in accordance to regulatory guidelines, and conduct / assist meal service to the veteran residents. Who are the customers?The primary customer are the brave men and women that answered our nations call, executed their duties and now are unable to live in their respective communities due to failing health. This job will also support the widows of the service men and women to include parents that have lost children in combat (Gold Star Parents) Ideal CandidateExperience working in a long-term care facility; Experience as a Cook; Experience utilizing and following recipes; Experience serving food to residents of a hospital or institution; Experience cleaning and sanitizing kitchen, utensils, and equipment. Minimum QualificationHigh school diploma or equivalent. Employment RequirementsEmployment is subject to criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act, (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.Must possess and maintain a valid Safe Food Handling Certificate or receive within 1 week of date of hire.Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.Must sign and observe confidentiality agreement.Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.Occasional travel for training & meetings and driving a State of NM owned motor vehicle may be required; Working hours may include weekends, holidays, overtime, and callback hours. Working ConditionsThis position will perform work primarily in a kitchen/home like kitchen setting with exposure to high and low temperatures from ovens and freezers. Standing, walking, bending, squatting and reaching above head and shoulders as well as the ability to carry/lift up to 50 pounds is required. Incumbent may be exposed to minor physical harm such as cuts from knives, kitchen machinery and other kitchen equipment. Frequent interaction with residents, family and staff. Must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language, which may include recipes, therapeutic diets, and warnings on cleaning products. Position is required to work holidays, callback, and overtime.
