Job Description:
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.This position will assist with maintaining high standards of control for quality food production and service for approximately 150 Cadets; Provide nutritionally adequate meals meeting Federal Child Nutrition Program meal patterns; Follow operational procedures for efficient and effective food production and service; Assist with food and supplies requisition as needed, check the cost and quality of items received, and insures proper storage; Follow Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy procedures for inventorying food, supplies and equipment. Maintain an environment conducive to protecting the health and well-being of the facility's Cadets through high levels of food safety and sanitation standards; Follow Federal and State safety and sanitation procedures; Maintain a safe facility for performance of work; Assist supervisor with maintaining integrity and accountability of the facility Child Nutrition Program through compliance with all federal and state regulations and Department Child Nutrition policies; Assist with maintaining required records (production records), reports and inventories in compliance with federal and state regulations. Properly uses and cares for all equipment; Perform all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner; Communicate positively with facility staff, Cadets as well as food service staff. Complies with policies and procedures of the Department; Assumes responsibilities as designated by the Food Service Supervisor I.Note to Current State Employees:The Salary Grade for this position is NC01. DPS is comprised of approximately 6,000 permanent positions and nearly 13,000 NC National Guard temporary positions.About The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy:The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA) is a quasi-military style resident program for at risk youth in the ages of 16-18. Sponsored by the North Carolina National Guard, the TCA mission is to redirect the efforts of young adults who have had trouble succeeding in the normal high school environment. The intent is to give them the skills and attitude to become productive citizens in their communities. The Academies are located in two different locations: Salemburg and New London, North Carolina. It is a 17-month program divided into two distinct phases: a five-month in-residence phase at the academies, and a twelve-month post-residential phase immediately following graduation for the in-residence phase. TCA seeks to improve the life and future employment potential of its cadets by concentrating on eight core components which are: Life Coping Skills, Academic Excellence, Responsible Citizenship, Job Skills, Service to Community, Health and Hygiene, Physical Fitness, and Leadership/Followership.These Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies, along with the Minimum Education and Experience Requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Required to complete the following training provided by TCA: Staff Acclimation Course, Foundations Course, Gang Awareness/Conflict Resolution, Non-Violent Cis Intervention Training and Hands Off Trainining; First Aid/CPR (recertify every two years); Attend Food Safety training class as required. Per 5 CFR 731, upon appointment, applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management. Failure to obtain a favorable determination may result in termination of employment.
