Prepare top quality food in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations and with our established policies and procedures.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

* Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of cook.

* Prepare all food in accordance with established policies and procedures and assure all kitchen personnel comply with strict adherence to all sanitary procedures and regulations.

* Review menus prior to preparation to assure proper established recipes are present.

* Assure that food and supplies that support the next meal are readily available.

* Assist in serving meals as necessary, and on a timely basis.

* Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures.

* Inspect special diet trays to assure they are correct. Request nursing supervisory assistance is there is the slightest doubt regarding special diets.

* Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc.

* Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to assure residents rights are protected.

* Coordinate dietary service with other departments, especially the nursing department, to ensure a smooth and efficient delivery system.

* Assist in inventory and storing of incoming food, supplies, etc.

* Assist in daily and scheduled cleaning duties.

* Maintain awareness of advances in Cooking and Dietary Services.

* Communicate effectively nursing staff

* Maintain skills in order to assist staff as necessary.

* Highly functioning reasoning skills, good judgment, and critical thinking skills.

* Communicate and participate as part of a high-functioning interdisciplinary team.

**SKILLS and ABILITIES**

* Education: Must have a High School diploma or GED.

* Experience: Two years related food service experience preferred

* Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantity.

* Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

* Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such.

* Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, and family members.

* Must be knowledgeable of dietary procedures, cooking characteristics, various cuts of meats, names and contents of dishes, etc.

* Able to follow oral and written instructions.

* Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition as well as the ability to communicate with residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
