POSITION SUMMARY

The Cook is responsible for the preparation of food for breakfast, noon meals, and dinner to be served at stated times. Must attend menu conferences and plan food quantities to meet serving needs of the residents. Clean and wash small equipment. Must keep work area clean. Clean stove, steamer, slicer, blenders and others. Cook is responsible for checking menus for thawing of meat. Supervise dietary aides. The Cook must set up steam table for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Must report to Dietary Service Supervisor any problems with staff, food needs or any other irregularities. All other duties may be assigned by Dietary Service Supervisor.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Food Handler's Certification
  • Experience desirable, but not a requirement.
  • Must be mentally alert.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Ability to accurately measure food ingredients and portions.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of quantity food cooking and equipment use.
  • Clean and appropriately groomed.
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decision when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members, visitor, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to safety and health of other individuals in the workplace.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Prepare sanitizing bucket for your workstation.
  • Check menu and production sheet for the meal. Also, check the prep/pull sheet.
  • Prepares desserts/salads for the next day's noon meal, properly covers, dates and stores for next day's use.
  • Prepares breakfast bread and hot cereal.
  • Works the end of the trayline checking the trays for accuracy at breakfast and lunch.
  • Pulls the steam table after each meal.
  • Helps cook properly store leftovers and helps cook clean trayline, steam table and stovetop after breakfast and lunch.
  • Helps cook prepare lunch meal.
  • Clean work area and equipment before end of your shift.
  • Prepares dinner meal
  • Checks menu and production sheets for meats to be pulled and any prep work to be done for the next day.
  • Cooks any meat that needs to be cooked for the next day's menu
  • Take temperatures of the dinner meal and record
  • Works dinner trayline
  • Properly stores any leftovers from trayline
  • Cleans trayline, stove top, ovens and other equipment and cooks prep area
  • Helps with pots and pans if needed
  • All other duties assigned
